I was wandering around with the new Cheetah 12, looking for some hogs that had been digging around in one of the dry stock tanks. I was taking a break, standing on the berm of the tank, when this fat feller came walking out of the brush about 50 yards away. I kneeled down, got him in the iron sights, and because he was moving a pretty fair pace, (and I was using iron sights on a new shotgun) I decided not to take my usual ear-hole shot and went for COM, behind left shoulder. I had the magazine loaded with DDuplexs Broadhead 32 and launched one of the 495 grain slugs his way. He just dropped like rock, nose first, and didn't even squeal or do the leg thrash thing. I walked up to within about 15 yards of him, and could see no sign of breathing and some ugly reddish stuff coming out of his mouth. And he smelled HORRIBLE! I've put away several hundred hogs in my life, and had some real stinkers, but this one was the worst. Found the entry hole; no exit hole, so all 2130 pounds of energy stayed within his portly body. I really like the Cheetah, and those DDuplex slugs seem to hold a lot of promise for one shot, one kill on the piggies!

I don't think I have ever broke in a new gun that quickly, nice work. Yeah, Gary, neither have I! I took it to the range in the morning and found out which of the 4 DDuplexs slugs were the most accurate, and after 5 shots with each, the winner was the Broadhead Hexolit 32. (The loser was my shoulder and right cheek after 20 rounds off the bench with HV slug rounds!) Loaded up the magazine and began walking around when this big, smelly dude appeared. So after just 21 shots out of a brand, new gun,and I was lucky enough to draw first blood. I doubt if it will ever happen again!!

You said that slug did not pass through. How do you feel about that? I know you said they expand to like 300% or more. I'm wondering how lethal it will be if it were to pass through a few inches of mud and shield. I know it is like 400 grains and ungodly energy.

Gary, having a 495 grain slug with (advertised) 2130 foot pounds of energy expend all that force inside the body cavity of the animal, with no exit wound, makes me very happy. Having taken out a bunch of piggies over the years, I can tell you that they can absorb an enormous amount of punishment and keep on going. This big guy went "nose down" with one shot that was not to the usual "ear hole" placement I try to do. And he was DRT. I have yet to do a frontal shot through the mud and shield, but I'd take it and be confident it would deliver a mortal wound.

It's not how you fall, It's how you get up.
