I have no experience with BB's and one has appeared on my place. I have several game cam pics of him but I have no idea what is considered 'mature' -or- trophy caliber.

He looks about 15 to me. They start looking good at 18 and 20 considered a good trophy. Anything over 22 is a a really big one. He’ll still look nice on the wall if you want to take him.

Thanks... maybe i'll just watch him. What is the 'normal' growth rate? i.e. if he is 15" now, how long before he gets to 18"? or 20"?

He’ll be 17-18 next year and hopefully 20 in 2 years.

His coloring suggests early maturity. He's 17" now. It's a crap shoot if you don't know how he got there. If he has no girlfriends he'll try to find them. He got in, he'll find a way out. If I was you I'd take him to the taxidermist now.

His loose curls have people confused. He's at least 17".

Shoot him and tell us the length. Maybe I’m getting confused at my old age but I’ve hunted them on my place for 20 years and I’ve never underestimated a buck by 2 inches. If anything it goes the other way. I’ve shot 20 inch 3 curls and I don’t think this buck has 3 curl genes. Your call.

Exactly. If there's no trophy fee to you...boom.

I've watched a feeder hog blackbuck for two sits now. But the LO is quite a bit high on his fee. Still, it was hard not to bust a cap. They are pretty to watch.

I'm strictly a bow hunter so I guess I'll have to make the decision to let one fly, or keep it in the quiver when the moment of truth comes.

There was a MASSIVE herd of these less than a mile from my lease but none ever wandered over and i hate that!! Blackbuck is definitely on my wish list right at the top. I would have definitely shot that one
