I have 2 options here for bulk protein pellets, one is Record Rack. Who uses it and what are y'alls opinions on it? I've been feeding L&E pellets but it's looking like I'm going to have to change to Record Rack. These are my only 2 options here for bulk.

I've been using the 20% Record Rack Deer & Elk from Tractor Supply for 4 years, deer like it fine. It's now 13.99 for 50lbs. Tried some (don't remember the name) off brand from Atwood's earlier this year and the deer wouldn't touch it. I'm the only one who feeds protein on our 480ac. Sorry, not much help for you.

Stompy, I've tried the 20% Purina Record Rack out in SW Young county not far from you and didn't have a ton of success with the deer going for it. Academy's Pro Rack Plus, 18% molasses flavored and FMC's 18% out of Graham has done better for me. I know others swear on the Purina.

Stompy,
I 2nd the FMC. My deer have been on the 20% FMC for a number of years. They flat tear it up. Did Rack Plus 20 before that and they were so so on it.

Why are you switching away from Lyssey and Eckel I might not be able to get it anymore is one reason. Another is, not seeing any real benefit with it after 3 years of using it. I have only 2 places to buy in bulk out here and my choices are 16% Record Rack and possibly 16% L&E. Not going to pull my feed wagon to Graham, that's an hour from me. I don't like the idea of feeding 16% protein but I have no choice. Was just wondering if anyone else is feeding 16% Record Rack and how's it working for them. I have fed 3 different kinds in the past 16 years. Red Chain which did nothing for the horns but put on a lot of weight. Rack Plus which seemed to work well but the guy stopped carrying it. L&E which seems to be the middle ground between the other two.

I am not going to try and sell you on a certain feed but Purina, Record Rack and Lyssey and Eckel all pretty good proteins. I use Double Down and am pleased with my results.

Yea, wish I had more choices out here, I'm pretty limited on bulk protein.

Yea, wish I had more choices out here, I'm pretty limited on bulk protein. Brothers there at 4H pushed the Rack Plus on me but the deer never really pounded it. I'm telling you Stompy, the deer love the FMC. It may be worth the trip. Went through 1000 lbs from Sept 5th to October 6th on 320 acres. Then the acorns dropped and its been sporadic but coming out of rut here in Jan and Feb, they will be on it again big time.

That's funny, my deer like the Rack Plus. In fact the deer liked all 3 that I've fed over the years.

Stompy -
I don't know how much protein you use or how far you are from Gorman, but Gorman Milling makes 17% & 20% pellets. I feed the 17% Chain Reaction pellet on our high fenced property and the deer have no problems eating it. Gorman will deliver to you with a minimum order. I am sure I am further from Gorman than you, so their minimum may not be as much as for you as me. The Chain Reaction has the vitamins and minerals in it you want. I only go to the 20% when it is really dry in the summer.

Fed Red Chain from Gorman Milling for 11 years, wasn't happy with it at all. Waited way too long before I changed. Was told by a nutritionist that the mineral package in it was in a form not easily absorbed by deer,,not sure if that's changed. I must buy bulk and am curious about folks results with Record Rack, not interested in any other protein. Thanks though.
I go through about 13 tons a year. I have an All Seasons 2 ton feed wagon with an auger, not looking to buy sack protein.

I've used Record Rack in the past and it is not a bad feed. The Chain Reaction feed in my opinion is a better, more complete feed. Absorption and its vitamins and minerals are actually why I prefer it, plus you don't pay for the name on the bag. Our bucks also rarely get busted up racks. I can't prove that is due to the feed, but it sure seems to be a big contributor.
As mentioned, I've used Record Rack and had no issues with deer eating it. I only used it one year when I had to use bagged feed, so I don't have experience of year over year results. I've used the Chain Reaction feed for the past four years and am very satisfied with antler quality and fawn recruitment.
Look forward to your thoughts on Record Rack after giving it a try.

I use Purina Antlermax 20% or Lyssy & Eckel 20%.
I've tried probably most of the deer proteins at one time or another including Sportsmans choice record rack in the green bag, blue bag, red bag & antlers plus, deer eat it.
The above tried in Blanco, Llano, Burnet, Travis, Hays, Young, Montague, Wise, Denton, Grayson, Fannin, Henderson, Smith, Cherokee counties.
With the lesser known / local brand type feeds things get 'interesting' when you send samples for independent nutrient content testing.

I don't like the idea of feeding 16% protein but I have no choice. Was just wondering if anyone else is feeding 16% Record Rack and how's it working for them. I switched to Record Rack 16% a couple weeks ago after the usual place I buy was close when I went through town. Deer have eaten 150lbs in two weeks. Not sure of what brand Gore Bros carry, but the deer would barely touch it, mostly young bucks. Deer last year in Brownwood wood go through 300lbs in two weeks of the Gore brand. This is a new lease and the previous hunters didn't protein
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

I’ve been feeding FMC 20% for 9 years in the Murray area with great success. I’m just hesitant to try anything else because the deer just devour it. Can’t tell you how many pics I have from last season with 3 bucks at a time with their face in the tubes and multiple bucks milling around hoping to get some as well. I have a 1200 lb. Boss Buck that holds 1050 lbs. of protein. I filled it and documented the date when it was filled. This feeder was emptied in 63 days, couldn’t believe it. Long and short, I have to agree with DQ & 4Weight. The deer really crave the FMC in our area. Give it a try and tell us the results please.
I believe they can handle bulk as well, they produce it where it is sold in Graham. Farmers Milling

I am in Montague County and have been using a local 16% brand in Muenster from Tony's Feed & Seed for the better part 20 years we first noticed a difference in the body weights at about the 3 year mark. The Doe's were healthier and we started seeing more twins and a few triplets. The bucks body improved before we saw improved horn mass. We feed year round and have spring and fall food plots. Along with this our Biologist advised us to thin out the varmint population as well (Yotes, Coons, skunks, opossums, bob cats etc). The turkey population exploded! He also told us that the deer will get better digestion from 16% than the 20% pellets.
