Yup. A 45 is still better.

I don’t disagree. Heck, I once argued a whole thread on this subject for the .40 as the better choice. But, what do I know? They sure studied the heck out of it before deciding. I’m about convinced at this point for their needs.

Don't forget military as well.....I would bet they spent millions studying the pros/cons of each and selected the one that is best for the majority of the population.

OK, I'll jump into the mosh pit...

Caliber is probably the least important factor in the equation. More important factors are good reliable ammo, good reliable gun, quality training, and lots of quality practice. If a fella does his job (controlled and accurate shooting), the bad guy won't know the difference. He'll be dead.

And that's a wrap. up

I still like my 45 acp but I parted ways w my 40 cal years ago as the ballistics closed the gap between 9 and 40 I carry 9mm most days

Ballistics gel is not real world.....muscle, bone, clothes....etc.

That’s correct. And I have seen more people killed with a .25 or .380 than any other caliber pistol. And I’ve seen a lot of dead people

In a gunfight..10mm G20 hands down......16 rounds with one in the pipe.....45 caliber is for girls at that point.

The 45 has been taking care of business for a really long time. I don't see anything that the 10mm brings that a 45 can't do just as well. Size matters and a 45 isn't going to shrink. Of course a shot in the head with a 22 is a game changer as well. Carry what you can shoot well as placement matters. A 10mm in the leg isn't the same as a 9mm in the chest.

Well if I have a boar or a bear charging me...with the right loads..all day the 10mm is the round to have. .45 in this scenario,..well I disagree if you think they are the same.

Been shooting rifles and shotguns all my life. Didn’t own a handgun until around 12 years ago. .40 was THE cartridge then. Shot several .40’s and 9mms. Found I shot more accurately with a 9mm so that’s what I got.

Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

I can't think of anything the 10mm doesn't do better than 45. You have to go down to 200 grain bullets to get 1000fps out of a 45 acp, then you're still 250fps slower than 10mm and your bullet has less sectional density.

I have. I can't quote numbers because it's been awhile, but in general I shoot 9mm and .45 better than .40 (I still shoot a .40 well). I'm a .45 guy at heart, but I find myself carrying a 9mm most of the time based primarily on weight and size. I still carry my .45 in uniform, but I generally carry my Glock 19 in plain clothes which is the vast majority of the time. Others may feel differently, but the recoil of a .45 feels softer to me than a .40 because of the pressure differences.

So that makes two of us.

Makes me think there is a lot of internet hearsay in this thread...

I had a Glock 27 (.40 S&W) but I found myself not carrying it sometimes. I switched to the Glock 43 (9mm) when they came out. I like it much better as a carry gun. The best one going IMO.

Make sure your target is thin paper, you want to make sure that 9mm doesn't bounce back. roflmao

And if you don't take that advice and a bullet does bounce back and hit you, take this advice: don't post about it here.

With proper bullets and shot placement, the .223 will do everything the 300 Winchester Magnum will do... or something like that.
