Have an opportunity to get on a lease next season in Palo Pinto county. Was curious how everyone has done this year or in the past? Property is just north of Gordon. With the price being $19/acre wanting to see how others have done. Thanks

Lots of deer around there. Some bruisers come from northern Erath, southern Palo pinto. Go check it out.

That's a good area, lots of deer and hogs. It may have some free range Audad on it also. They are a lot of them around 7R Ranch east of Gordon all the way to Santo.

200 acres. lease is $3800. No water or electric but the guy leasing it out said we may be able to work out a deal to drop our camper next door on his place which has electricity. Guests can’t hunt deer but family can. Up to 5 deer per paying family. guests can hunt hogs.
The price is what concerns me, but I know leases are harder and harder to find these days especially within 2 hours of dallas

Hunted north of Gordon for 20 years. The hunting was ok then, before AR came into play so it's been a while. Deer numbers were not that great but usually found some to take. The landowner we leased from had told me 2 years ago that the drought put a major dent in deer numbers. They are bouncing back from what I hear. There is a lot of hunting pressure in the area but it's close to DFW. How many paid hunters on the 200 acres?

I would not hunt more than 2-3 tops at any time, preferably 2 if it were me and probably not harvesting more than 2 maybe 3 mature bucks assuming the deer density is good. I would take no more than 2 doe as well. I would look at it and see what surrounding property looks like.Size and surrounding topography as well as deer sign.

Above all else evidence of prolific fenceline hunting. If seen run away, LOL. Seriously, if it looks and feels good why not, kind of like a woman. For 2 hours from metromess that price per acre for 2 guns is reasonable.

We went ahead and did the lease - tons of signs of deer on the property as well as hogs. Talked to previous leaser and he said the turkey numbers have been pretty good lately as well. Mostly all 200 acres is huntable which is nice.

Lease is about 5 minutes north of Gordon off 919. Lots of hills coming in but the property and surrounding areas were more on the flat side. Some elevation changes but nothing major. We are looking forward to it. This is our first lease we are all just happy to actually have a place to hunt next season.

There are some good deer around there . I know of several 140-150 inch deer killed north of Gordon and a few160's. In fact back the early 90's the largest buck I've ever heard killed in Palo Pinto county 185 gross (low fence) was killed around there.

KyleW,
I would FEED, FEED, FEED to keep the deer you do have and pull a few deer from surrounding properties.

Good Luck on your new lease!!!

I hunted Eastland county on and off 20 years 5 miles south of I 20 on Tudor road. Deer Turkey and Quail Ok . Lots pressure but saw more bucks after started to harvest doe. The Palo Pinto creek went right through this place and Palo Pinto river on west side l liked it it is were I taught all my children to hunt all 5.I think that is all the money for that size spot. But I was paying $1800.00 14 years ago for 250 acres. My oldest son killed nicest buck mabey 120. Oh we did see some nice bucks 130 to 140 just didn't get one. It is worth the drive to Mary's Cafe CFS is best anywhere Take Hwy 16 north to Strawn should only be few miles from you. I race in Abilene and make it a point to stop and eat. And now all my race friends are hooked too.
