I dont run traps very often (mostly for coons) but, I had been seeing a quite a bit of sign on a trail I take to get to my tree stand and just had to give it a run. I made a basic dirt hole set with a couple stepping sticks a couple feet off to the side of the trail and the very next morning I had my first trapped bobcat! Shes not the biggest or most spotted cat but, its one less fawn killer out there and I feel like I accomplished something by trapping my first predator

Congrats! my first catch was a younger bobcat as well. Finally managed to catch a coyote. There is a lot more to it than what meets the eye and I still have a lot to learn I'm sure.

And are you saying you CAN snare them, but not catch them in a steel leg hold trap?

Nice cat good work. And you caught her way up on the leg that is unusual that I've caught mine. Usually by one or two toes and that's using #3 jump trap. Good job.

I CAN snare coyotes fairly consistently by setting snares on the trails they use to cross under fences but I havent had a single bit of luck trying to catch them in a leg hold trap

Im no expert by any means but, from what I have read and understand if you are getting toe catches you need to increase your pan tension so that the animal will be able to put more of its weight on the trap before the trap goes off

Could be. I always had the mind to set the pan tension as light as humanly possible.

Very nice. When I was a kid you could make really good money doing that. Life was so good. Trapping and making really good money. The place I sold my furs was the same place we ordered guns and bought trapping supplies. How cool it was to pick up a fat check and not have any bills to worry about and go buy whatever you thought you needed.
I set a trap once and a while just for good old time sake but the pelts not worth much. Its still fun. That cat is a trophy. Congrats

First thing they do is step right on it...weirdest thing but it works like a charm.

Great catch! This years fur is beautiful and thick on the ones I've seen.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.
