What is better? Kerosene/ Diesel or Propane? I am talking about forced air heat. I have a kerosene dearborne but since the shop isn't insulated or sealed completely I need something a little better. Only 630 sq ft.. I was looking at a forced air 60,000 btu propane rig at lowes for $115.00

kerosene contains 135,000 btu per gallon; propane is 90,000 btu per gallon.

what can you get each of these for per gallon - $$ -??

Kerosene is just a little cheaper than propane around here but I don't even know if forced air kerosene heaters exist. I use a combination of propane and a wood burning stove in my old drafty shop.

Kero is 5 bucks a gallon. Propane is fifty cents a pound. I spend fifty bucks filling a 100# cylinder. It’ll last me much longer than ten gallons of Kero. I’ve run both in the same space, propane won.

We always used one of the kerosene jet heaters and just wheeled it to where we would be working in the shop that day. Also ran it mostly on diesel since it was easier to find

Wood burning stove, with a convection tube, and a squirrel cage fan.

My fuel is free. Just requires work.

These are right behind them.

Unfortunantly, I use a couple buddy heaters.

My guess is yes, or 221 - whatever it takes.
That would be quite an amp draw and pretty big circuit breaker for 120V service but i guess it's possible.

I wonder how many BTU that equals if it was propane fired?

220v/30 amp breaker/line

5000watt = ~17,000 btu
at 10c/kwh = 50c an hour to run
running ~6 hours = ~ $3 and about same btu's as 1 GALLON of propane (90,000 btus)

220v/30 amp breaker is correct. Since I run a plasma cutter and larger Lincoln, it wasn't a big deal to hang it up there.

I bought 40 lbs yesterday for 61c a lb at McGraw in Bonham. The places in Sheran are a lot higher. I think Tractor Supply gets around $3 a gallon.

I love my stove. It heats up 3200sf. With no problem. It’s only 2 1/2” cubed. Don’t worry about the grandkids or dogs. Unless they’re exceptionally slow they only have to touch it once, and won’t ever do it again.

Grandkids learn real quick that a woodstove will bite them. Or if they got to close, grandpa would swat their rear. We had them for a week with the stove going, never a problem after their "first mistake". The next time, 2 months later, they remembered the rules. 2 years later, they still remember.

Kids and dogs have been around wood burning stoves for a couple hundred years.

I thought I'd read somewhere that a wood stove is a no-no as far as insurance companies go. Like, some of them wouldn't cover contents if one was used for heat. Have any of you had any issues?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned a waste oil burner. I built one similiar to this in for my shop. Local oil change shop lets me take all the old oil I want.
My shop is 18x20 and uninsulated. This thing will have you sweating after running about a half hour.

That would be insane if true. I would promptly take them to court if they failed to cover a loss.

Internarional fire code even allows open fires, in city limits if they are for heat, cooking, or religious purposes. There is a size limit, but thet are legal. There are plenty of people in this country that still heat, exclusively with wood. And they have no other choice in the matter.
