Curious about this. I would never trust a high powered rifle without Loctite on the scope base screws, especially when paying for an expensive hunt. Many manufacturers use it on the factory installed bases and it was used on every trigger set screw I have seen. So......

On both rings and bases.
My trigger poundage screws get wife's nail polish. Except the one Rem 700 I have, wearing a Timney, it has a jam nut.

He and I will have to agree to disagree on that one.
I don't know an exact number, but a fairly significant number of my customers have something come loose while they are out with me. That's why I keep all the bits and a torque wrench in my truck, at all times.
I've began asking if they want me to check tightness on all their screws before we start. Most say, go for it.

I can say I have had two Scope ring screws loosen..... one had blue loctite the other had nothing. So I come down squarely on the fence. Using a Torque is more important and if I do use it it’s purple.

Never/nowhere for me. I clean/degrease and dry all screw threads, threaded holes, mating surfaces and torque to spec. Have never had a problem but have seen a few really buggered up that were Loctited in.

I just use a torque wrench these days. Even on the heavy hitters (50BMG) I’ve never had one loosen that was properly torqued.
I do use loctite on trigger adjustment screws though and Rocksett on suppressor muzzle devices

I don't use Loctite even though I have it on hand, and actually just mounted a scope the other night.
On the base screws I prep the surfaces by cleaning all the threaded holes with a bristled pipe cleaner dipped in rubbing alcohol, and do the same for all the screw threads.
The bases - I screw in to 10"lbs then back them out and back down to 20"lbs and then back again until there at 25"lbs which is Talley's spec.
For the rings I assemble them without the scope and tighten them to 10"lbs then back out and again to 15"lbs then mount the scope for eye relief and level and finally tighten them to 18"lbs(talley spec) and I'm done.
The purpose of all the tightening and backing out again is to slightly deform the threads on the screws so that once they are brought to torque spec the screw threads are truly matted to the hole threads. Kinda the same principle as lapping scope rings for maximum contact.
I know somebody will disagree with this method but all of my rifles including .300win, .338, .300wby, 7mm Mag .... have all had scopes mounted like this never come loose; including the .300win I took on my float plane moose hunt this October.
Infact they were so solid on the Leupold "windage adjustable rear" base mount on my .300wby that I could see the screws were holding tight while the soft aluminum mount tore out of the steel screw head - Thus shifting me to Talley mounts.
