Heading north to Kansas In a couple hours. Should be a fun week of hunting if we don't get froze out. Day time highs are looking good enough to keep serious ice away though.

I'm not sure what weather you're looking at or where exactly you're going in Kansas but from what I'm seeing Central Kansas is going to be locked up (minus rivers) from Saturday 12/23 through the foreseeable future... Just my 2cents

Good Luck on your trip!!

I saw that too, I think we're going to have to move south after Friday's hunt

Are you going with a guide service, DIY, or private invite?

Let's make this a live hunt with details. I'm normally off this week, but stuck at work.

Currently mapping out all the boat ramps and access points I may be able to walk in from as a back up plan.

When small water is freezing rivers and streams can be downright phenomenal hunting up there. Hope you get into some

Finding river access is the only problem. Not many boat ramps or walk in areas

True on access, bridge access over rivers works really well though, might not be ideal for launching a boat, but we've dragged small Johns and kayaks multiple times where bridges cross tributaries around the kansas river

Any links to a list of public boat ramps or launch points? I can't find much on it

Before Someone jumps my a$$, I'm not asking him for specific launch points, I'm looking for a statewide list of boat ramp locations.

I hunted the Kansas River around Lawrence last year when everything was frozen. I have never seen so many geese in my life.

A shallow driver motor is a must if using a boat. Just be careful if you are walking in the river bed. The area I was hunting was very shallow but there were holes and drop offs that will put you in over your head in one step. The current is also a lot stronger then it looks. Watch out for floating blocks of ice. Those bastards will take your legs out quick.

He's been doing this for sometime now.

CB an QV are great places when the weather is right and you hunt weekdays, not adjacent to public holidays. You are missing out if you don't go after pheasants and quail on your trip too, IMO. Too much time in the day to only shoot ducks. I moved to Thailand for work this year so no KS trips for me.

Update - scouted all yesterday, we found several groups of around 100 mallards congregated in a few different spots. Not the group of 10 thousand like I found last time, but still hopefully enough for a decent shoot this morning. Also smoked a nice rooster while walking through some cat tails. North wind will be showing up in a little while. I'm hoping it'll send some frozen Nebraska birds with it
