Chad had contacted me a couple weeks ago about the 338 WSM he was screwing together on a Tikka action and what magazines could be used to get an extended OAL to run the heavies. The Tikka OEM Magazine is too short. The The Accuracy International magazines were too narrow and the fat cases were hanging up on the vertical ribs of the magazine. I did some investigating and found a couple solutions that will allow max OAL out of WSM family of cartridges in a Tikka using AICS magazines — provided that bolt stop is changed to long action. Solution 1... Use a Accuracy International .338 AICS Magazine (3.715 length). The ribs are shallower on their 338 Magazine than their 300 WM Magazine Solution 2... Use MDT AICS 300 WM or 338 Magazines (3.715 length). The ribs are shallower on both of these compared to the Accuracy International 300 WM AICS Magazine. Solution 3... Use Sako/TRG 42 Magazine. The double stack mag accommodates the cases very welll. Essentially creating a long/magnum action CTR Our AICS Bottom Metal will fit in factory stock and accepts any 3.715” AICS Magazine. Our Tikka TRG Bottom Metal will not fit factory stocks.

Your bottom-metal design is amazing, Snake. I really like the clean lines of it.

Wow!! Ok, so you are telling me with your new bottom metal, that it will fit the factory Tikka stock??!!! I take out the factory Tikka bottom metal, replace the bottom metal with yours and get an AI mag, and I'm good!!!??? (I'm starting to get the sensation of a little fore play, here!)

That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you -AND- we pushed the mag well posteriorly so it will feed rounds with an OAL of 3.500. Same thing with our TRG version. It’s the first (and only) to mate the Tikka action with the TRG42 magazine. It feeds like a dream. But requires aftermarket stock. McMillan and Iota tell me they are programming their machines to inlet for both. Foundation and manners are looking at it too. Trying to get greyboe on board but they said “get back to us after Shot 18”
