The deer hunting has sucked, hog hunting has slowed down, so looking toward my feathered friends once again. Two weeks ago, staked out a tank below my non-productive deer arena for some cloven foot activity and had quite a few ducks come in. This past weekend I went back and brought my shotgun with me and was lucky enough to snag my first ever Hooded Mergansers, got a male and a female, awesome looking ducks, think I'm going to get Jeremy at FF to do both.
Seem to also have a good bit of SH Crane activity lately, which I've never hunted before. Have a layout and could spring for a few decoys I guess. Besides getting set in the field and just getting lucky, anything else I can do to improve my chances?
Thanks!

Be sure you are left of Ft Worth. NE TX is no crane-ville.

Mergansers aren't ducks. Fish eaters is a better term. Pretty, but not a duck.

If you have a feeding field you can probably kill some with a few decoys. If they are just flying over you are pissing in the wind.
I'm with GK because I like salty old dudes.
