This has been possibly the slowest year for deer movement I have seen in the Montague area in the 7 years I have been hunting there. I wanted to see if anyone else who hunts that area has had a slow year? We have had very few legal buck on camera or otherwise and very few doe moving. We also had a camp check from the game warden last weekend who said there have been reported fence jumpers. Has anyone had poachers affecting their area?

Welcome. Has been a slower year for me also. Seeing deer but not the numbers we usually get. Passed on some descent bucks but decided to give them another year.

May want to check out the other thread on here. Sounds to me that others are having a slow year as well.

welcome

Hit or miss in Jack county, acorns put the brakes on the hunting.
Good luck!

It was definitely slow - but still ended up getting my target buck. My neighbor also shot a really nice buck this past week. So they're moving but not just not like they have been in the past few years.

Yes, very slow! I hunt Stephens County, and we have been very slow, up until now. The last few weeks have picked up. Our game warden said it was the slowest hunting he had seen in Nov. I fished our lake on our lease instead of hunt, since it was so warm and hunting so slow.

I am just south of Nocona and it has been slow until last weekend... had lots of deer moving once a good cold front pushed through.

Alright at least it's not just us having a slow year. I've never had much luck with late season buck movement, but it won't be for lack of trying. Thanks for the replies and good luck!

Last weekend was some of the best deer movement I have seen this year. In northeast Texas. Stay after them. He will come out!

We’re not doing great. One niceOLD ten point. I killed a huge 6 point that we couldn’t find.

Haven't heard of poachers or anything and heard very few shots. I have seen quite a few deer. Normally 7 to 10 a hunt. No shooters. Our neighbors took 3 (upper 140s to 170) very nice deer early we had on camera in September but they were dead by opening morning. We had a hard freeze and rain before opening weekend so it looked like winter then. Normally have green leaves until weekend before Thanksgiving. We will try again next week.

Here's the buck I got the day after Thanksgiving. He's only a 6 point, but he was a big, old buck. Field dressed to 140 pounds. I got a spike the next morning.

It's never too late in the season - shot this 10 pt - 18" spread on Dec 9. Needless to say, it was the coldest morning I've hunted this season - 27 degrees. I thought he was his bigger brother, another 10 pt, but still super happy with this one. I'll get his brother next year!

That's an awesome deer! I haven't seen anything like that this year, but glad to hear they are still in the area.

We had a great year in sunset if I could figure out how to post picks. I shot my personal best in bow season a 8 that scored right at 140 and my gf shot a big old bruiser of a deer.
