 Very basic Duck hunting questions.....

Sorry if this is basic, but I don't know jack about duck hunting.
Scenario, been hunting deer and my set up is close to a pond. I watch duck come and go all day. Think I saw a hawk get one today.
When I check my camera I always scare them up.
Do I need a stamp of some sort to hunt duck?
When is the season?
Daily limit or season limit?
Any duck? Any to avoid?
12 gauge I suppose, with what shot?

Here you can find the zones (different parts of the state have different seasons, but it's not as complicated as county-by-county deer) https://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdoor-annual/regs/animals/duckYou can also find the bag limits, they're kind of complicated for ducks, in general you can usually shoot up to 6 a day, if you have the right species coming to your decoys. There isn't a season limit like deer. Right now, because we've passed "the split" in all zones, statewide is open until Jan 28. You have to stop shooting at SUNSET, not 30 minutes after like deer. You can shoot 30 minutes before sunrise. Get steel shotgun shells in 2, 3, or 4 shot size. You need to be HIP certified (free) and you need a federal duck stamp on your license (not free). You can get all that online at TPWD. You're probably better off going with an experienced hunter your first time if you can get them on your property, because of the complicated bag limits. Also because they'll have the decoys, etc and know how to hide and when to shoot.

Do you have a corn feeder within a 100 yards of where you're seeing the birds?
Big no no to hunt anywhere there is bait on the ground.
And even a 100 yards may not be far enough a way. Best shoot me a PM and I'll come out to check on it for you.

Tide, make sure to be able to identify what you shoot. Bag limits can be confusing because you can only have so many of certain species within your daily bag limit.

download duck unlimited app on your phone. When you shoot the first duck or two you can look and see what kind they are. You don't need anything but shotgun and shells plus your lisence and stamps. If there coming and going all day don't worry about calls or decoys. Hide well and TAK'EM when they come in!
