I was blessed enough to join my boss's son to their Mule deer lease in West Texas for three and a half days. I killed this deer yesterday afternoon. Here's the story. You won't know these guys but I'm going to use names to help with the story. We spotted him at 3:30 at 400 yards. I set up to shoot and Jeff wanted me closer so I move up while Jeff stayed back . The deer saw me and walked to the base of a mountain above us and laid down. We radioed James and Tom to come help spot and development a game plan. We get a plan for Jeff and Tom to watch and James and I drove 3 miles around the mountain and hike back through two very steep canyons . We get to 187 yards down wind and he's still laying down all I can see is one side of his antlers and the back of his head and part of his neck so that's where I shot him at 5:30.
