Im very new to the hog hunting fun.. I am wondering if anyone uses a laser sight as a secondary sight for hog hunting? My thought is that when a group of hogs take off.. putting a laser on them and shooting seems efficient.. but i dont see a lot of setups like that. Im currently using an AR with a Strike Eagle 1-6x scope but looking to improve my setup on a pretty tight budget.

For what it's worth, in a game like hog hunting do what makes you happy. Talk to guys who hog hunt seriously or casually and you'll get every recommendation in the book. Use diesel corn, dont use diesel corn, hunt at night, hunt in the day, spot and stalk, call em in, watch a feeder, use a helicopter, use a spotlight, use dogs, use tannerite. There are a billion and one opinions, ways and methods for hog hunting. To me, that is kind of the beauty of a no season fairly restrictionless hunting animal. If you want to try a laser sight, slap that bad boy on there. Best case scenario you love having it and transform into a pig killing machine, worst case scenario you've got a cool new toy on your AR. Either way, you're out in the woods having a grand ol time. Just my two cents. Its all trial and error. From a feasibility standpoint, I would say assess the distances your shooting and see if a laser makes sense. My brother in law bought a laser pointer and when pigs showed up one guy was designated to hit the pigs with the laser pointer, sort of like a designated driver. Never hunted with him using this theory, and so the only evidence of this theory working are his stories.

Thanks for the feedback. I am interested to see if anyone is running a setup with a laser sight like that and if so, how they have it set up. I really just have some down time at work and like talking guns/hunting haha.. I am just getting my feet wet in the world of hunting pigs and would like recommendations on set ups. I like where im at, but always looking to take the next step. Without breaking the bank of course...yet

BJ, the problems with lasers and running hogs is that if the hog is 50 yards or so away or more and running laterally, you can't really expect to put the dot on the hog and expect the bullet to hit the hog anywhere near the laser dot. Unlike the speed of the laser, bullets travel much more slowly and the hogs will literally run out from in front of your bullets.

You can try it. Some folks master it, but based on the guys I have hunted with that have used lasers, it screws them up on runners more so than helps. They focus on the laser too much, and not on the target and what the target is doing.
