I have had a Model 788 Remington since the mid 70s and have smacked many a coyote with it. Having said that, I am really liking the 25-45 Sharps I built last year. Dead nutz accurate with Sierra 70 gr. Blitzkings @ 3000 fps from an 18" barrel AR. I plan on it being my primary calling rifle this year.

I have used the 25 DTI quite a bit on predators with excellent luck. I shoot the 85 gr Nosler BT’s.
It’s a 6.8SPC necked to 25 cal with 30 degree shoulder. It pushes 85-90 gr bullets over 3000 from the 18 inch Shilen barrel. One of the best coyote stands I have experienced was while we filmed for a show on the Outdoor Channel I was using that AR and I had only loaded 4 rounds. I was calling and all the coyotes came to my side as we had two shooters. I killed four and when a Bobcat showed at the 17 minute mark ....I was out of ammo. I whispered to the other shooter and he managed to spin and make a great shot. Got all on film which was the hard part.

Sounds like a hoot. That is another good caliber. I seriously considered building the 25 DTI or 25-6.8 when looking for something different. I built two 6.8 SPC rifles so bolts and mags would have been no problem. What it finally boiled down to is the 25-45 Sharps is necked up .223 or 5.56 brass which I had WAY more of than my precious 6.8 brass. I also know quite a few guys that shoot 5.56 ARs that don't reload so I get all their once fired brass.

I'd like to hang out with you two guys, lol. Sounds like y'all have got it going on.

Mmmm Hmmm

Killed number of them with a .223, but that said the .22-250 puts them down with authority. For strictly a coyote gun, the .22-250 is my choice...

Though Ive been curious about how the .204 works on them....

I have always been a 22-250 fan, now that I have my 250-3000 build in a 1-8 twist, that would be my go to if I could get back out their.

I like my 25-45 sharps, would be better in a bolt action

I am a bolt action rifle guy, never have owned an AR. I have killed them with 22 RF, 222, 223, 22-250, 220 Swift, 243, 257 Roberts, 25-06, 6.5 Creedmoor, 260, 7x57, 270, and 30-06. Maybe another cartridge or two I have forgotten about. I don't hunt for fur, never have, so too much damage is not a factor for me. My favorites are the 22-250, 220 Swift, and 243. Sometimes the 25-06 if the wind is blowing and distance is long. What I carry day in and day out is the 243 with an 87 VMAX loaded to about 3050 fps. Damage is pretty ugly, but it really puts them down in their tracks. Opens really fast, penetrates plenty for coyotes. Some day I plan on one of the fast sub-calibers, I think they would be pretty neat. Lots of combinations that kill coyotes good though, not so much about cartridge as it is bullet and shot placement.

Bolt actions here too. My favorite varmint rifle is chambered in .223 with a 12 twist to shoot 40-50 grain bullets for no exit. The little 40's hit coyotes like a thunderbolt and the pelt will just have a tiny entry hole. You can't help but like how easy the .223 is to load for with all of the available components, not to mention how many powders work well in it. Even though it's not my personal favorite, I think the 22-250 is probably the king of the varmint rounds.

22-250 for me. My normal predator load is the Winchester 45 grain jacketed hollow point. I have switched to Federal Fusion in 55 grain this year in case I see a hog for a little better penetration. Haven't tried the fusions out yet so can't tell you anything on them.

If just hunting gun 22-250 is just fun shoots very flat alot velocity and impact just has a bit more umf for bigger things you may come across...

if its an all day every day shooter that you are going to push the mess out of rounds through a good ole boring .223 is hard to beat and not pushing near the heat the little 250 fatty is and while the bullet hording isnt going on ammo is just a cheap and offers alot of options..

Still would have to take the 22-250 or if your wana get a crazy a .250 savage

I really like .22 magnum for ranges within 100 yards. Shot placement is key!
