Those of you with older dogs or had older dogs on a glucosamine regimen, What type or brand are you giving and ball park what dosage? I am usually just buying whatever is on sale and the recommended amount on the bottle or just below. The recommended amounts seem to be all over the place. I suspect the manufacturers push to the higher side of a dosage to sell more product.

Dasuquin advanced is the best. It has glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM. Any of the Dasuquin products are good though.
I think they are one of the few supplements (if not the only) that have a guaranteed analysis - meaning that what they claim is in each tablet - is in each tablet. Dogs get 1 a day and it's easy to give. Our dogs aren't old though. It's good preventative maintenance for later down the road.
We also give their joint product for horses to two of our older arthritic horses - makes a huge difference.
You can also buy all the ingredients separate in a powder form from just about any health food store (use the human grade quality) - it's not very palatable...but I'm sure it's cheaper.

I get the stuff in the pharmacy at Wal Mart, I think its nature valley or something like that. And I believe they are 1000 mg. My old half Britt / half pointer was around 75 pounds, I would give him two pills once a day. If I missed a day he could barely get up and walk. I have an EP that is about 45 pounds and give him one a day.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Been giving Dasuquin to a dog with a bad hip for over a year. Hunted him a week ago with no apparent discomfort then or the next day. Also giving a daily regiment of Rovera. Hoping it will allow me to let him hunt for an hour each trip.

I used Sams Club Glucosamine+MSM for 10 years on a lab that was as crippled as the day is long w/o it. Nobody would believe she had problems. She was a real house-a-fire.
Sweet sweet little girl. I miss her.
Two pills once a day. I believe the pills are 1500 mg each of Glucosamine and MSM.

Dasuquin is what I always recommended for dogs.
Fish oil capsules can also be of help.

Where can I get Dasuquin? It's an OTC product. Most vets carry it. Shameless plug.....you can also order it through my website.
