I have two feeders a few hundred yards apart. One has a hog light under the feeder motor , the other does not. After 2 big hogs started showing up a few weeks back , I turned the light on for motion. Since turning the light on , all hog activity at that one feeder has stop but continues nightly at the other feeder. Hogs have not stepped foot back there for two weeks now . After this last weekend , I set the light to dusk to see if maybe they will get used to it and I can take a shoot at em . The light is a moultrie feeder hog light. Anyone have any insight on this ? I'd like to get them to stop coming in all together. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/moultrie-feeder-hog-light#repChildCatid=1095910

yup. had that happen back to me in 2010. you gotta learn to dim light up slowly, very slowly, even with IR Lights at close range I point the IR light up and lower on to them slowly. Sudden changes in their surrounding will definitely startle them. You might do better just by leaving the light on all night long if possible.

I have changed the light setting to dusk-dawn now. I'll be back next weekend to check cams and do a night sit if there coming in again.

Your hogs sound pretty skittish. Where I hunt we put out a motion light when we see game camera activity and the hogs just ignore it completely. There might be a few smart ones that wait a few minutes until things seem okay, but they don't seem to object to a white motion light.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

I was in my 17ft ladder stand this past bow season and shined my bright stream light on em and they never even blinked. Just kept on eating.

That is great! Now you have a dedicated deer feeder and a dedicated hog feeder. Congrats!
like der Teufel, my hogs never really seemed to mind at all. I had a motion light for a couple of years and it took them about a hour to get used to it.

I've got smart hogs like that. Almost nothing works. The only way is to put a red light on your gun. It must be red and not green or blue. Shine above them and slowly come down on them. Eventually I quit hunting them at night. What works better is to have four feed times in the evening. Longest feed time during daylight. Then progressively shorter feed times into the dark. The hogs pattern to the feeder at dark but within a few day they start slipping up and coming earlier. Best way to beat them that I've found. Your not up all night either.

So the red light doesn't spook them much? Does it light up their eyes pretty well?

Throw that Moultrie junk in the trash and get yourself a Sportsman from Elusive. No batteries no Maintenance. Dawn to dusk, built in solar panel, 5 different modes, turns on slow, and a diffused face over the LEDs so there will be no spook. www.elusivewildlife.com

We will be out this weekend to check the cameras , after the dusk to dawn setting has been in place for 12 days. Here's the two we are after.(feeder without light) will have to set the trap after deer season if I can get them before

I wish it worked that way for me. I would use them as a way to keep the hogs off a feeder if it did. The hogs where I hunt in Young County have no fear of security lights. Maybe they get used to them amd each new generation of hogs just grow up with it as the norm. I had a feeder with a night setting 30 yards from my camper visible from a window by my bed for two or three years. It had a 100 LED motion security light on it and a driveway sensor to wake me up. Though usually too tired to bother getting out of bed to shoot one I observed a lot of them. I never saw a hog scared of it. They hit that feeder often. Too often for my sleep, so I gave up on the idea of shooting hogs from bed and took that feeder down. I have a security light on two of my large feeders year round and they have as many if not more hog cam pictures as my feeder without a light. That said, I am now in the attrition process of replacing them with solar street lights off ebay after testing one for a few months. But not because the security lights have given me any problem with scaring hogs. It is because the light I am going to is just as bright, cheaper, made of metal and glass instead of plastic, easily mounted on a pole I can slip over a T post, and stay on till very late or all night on a dimmer setting.

after 3 weeks , the hogs have not returned to the feeder with the light. Saturday right at sun down i did spot on of the hogs at my other feeder without the light. I handed my girlfriend the red led flashlight and had her spot light the sky and slowly move the light on him. Was able to get a shoot at him(arrow) . Knowing he was sitting in the middle of some brush , shot went right under his belly.
