Mounted a Lupe VX3 4x12x50 30mm on a weatherby vanguard 308. bought tally 2 pc bases and rings.
Mounted the base rings and scope. Went to range and bore sited and tried to sight in. Problem is the scope bottomed out on elevation. POI is 6"+ lower than POA. Pulled everything back apart. Check to see if all was tight sitting flush and mounted correctly.
I reset the scope to center of the total revs and remounted. Still have the same issue. Scope is bottoming out. These ore low/med rings and the scope obj. bell is right at 1/2" above the barrel. Any ideas? Never had this problem before.

I would bet that you have a set of mismatched rings. Would bet that the front ring is higher than the rear ring.

I don't think I have ever seen a 50MM objective 1/2" from the barrel on any rifle unless it had those old see through rings and even still don't think you could get 1/2" above.

Easy way to tell if it is a mismatched set of rings. Swap the rings from front to back and see if you are now shooting high.

Did you by chance get the 20 MOA rings?

Or if the scope hits the barrel...grins.

switch the rings- front to back and back to front. See if that fixes it.

I will swap the rings and see what happens. Though they don’t look to be different heights.

I remember a thread about a scope that had a built in zero stop that you could adjust by taking of turret off. Don’t know if this is your problem but just a thought.

Maybe Today.

What rifle? Are the bases the same height/thickness?

Can you post some pictures? IMO it is likely the bases are backwards.

Bases are not backward. they are both flat. That was my first thought when problem started. I also mounted the bases per the instructions and pictures in the package. up

Maybe try lapping the rings? I’d measure them while they are off with calipers and even measure each side of each rung, just to see if they were killed incorrectly.

Just got around to swapping the rings from front to back. That didn’t work either.
Scope is still bottoming out. I haven’t shot it just bore site. Here are the bases and rings
Warne flat base and med rings for Weatherby Vanguard.

It's GOT TO BE a mismatched set of bases.

I've used steel Warne bases many times...but I do not recall whether there are any markings on them for identification.

I think we need a caliper measurement on bases, and rings.

If all looks well, the scope is bad.

Some of the Burris rings have adjustable inserts, at this point I would be trying other rings and bases.....

I have a set of Talleys for a Vanguard, new in package.
they do measure different and there is a different profile on the bottom, make sure you are using the correct ring for front and rear.

Burris Signature Zees would be a viable option if it turns out the receiver was machined out of spec. All you'd need is a set of offset inserts. They work very well.

...which brings up a thus far unasked question: Was this rifle ever successfully scoped before now?

Rifle is brand new. Finally got if fixed today. Wrong base though right fit. Swapped out bases and everything is working.
I’m guessing someone put the wrong base in the package. bang
