This guy has been on camera (and the hit list) since we put in feeders & cameras @ 3 months ago. I had him estimated at @ 200-225#. Hunting alone, I finally got him coming in @ an hour after full dark on Saturday, turned on the rifle-mounted red light & tuned him up. Chest shot, exit behind ribs. Then I walked up on him and realized there was no way I could handle all that hog by myself.

I think he went more like 325#-340#. Definitely the largest hog kill of my life. Option 1: Leave him. Option 2: Call for help. Freezer is empty, he doesn't stink, and I want at least a euro mount so I went option 2. Lease manager knew a guy who knew a guy who would come help (thank goodness). Got him on the tailgate & my help went home.

First really large hog I shot was probably about 250 Lbs or so, and across a small creek about 200 yards from the nearest spot I could get my truck. I carried my rifle back to the truck, returned to the hog, grabbed a hind leg and started to drag. I went nowhere. I got a better grip, kind of leaned in, and gave a strong lunge. I moved the hog six inches. I dropped the leg, stood up, and told the hog to stay right there. I went back to the truck, drove to the house and got an ice chest and my skinning gear, and proceeded to skin the thing on the ground. I got the leg quarters and back straps and left the rest.

Nowadays, I don't skin it first. I just cut off the leg quarters, take out the back straps, and skin the leg quarters on the truck tailgate. My days of lugging heavy hogs around are pretty much over.

Good job and good story I think at one time or another we have all had a tough time getting something loaded up. I've never killed a hog the size of that one.

I smoked one whole about that size......had to use a tractor with a front end loader to put him in the pit.....

I hunt only my property so I can drag em to the cleaning tripod with the tractor. Now, would my tripod hold that thing, I can't guarantee it. That's a whopper. I did once about 12 ago shoot a deer that ran into the woods about 50 yards. I had to manually drag it through thick brush to get it to the clearing. I had forgot my keys to the place so couldn't get to any of my equipment. I only had the keys I've hidden there for the house and power box. I drug that thing with a rope around my waist until I could get to, at that time, my girlfriend's Volvo to drag it to the house. Volvo S40 does pretty good offroad, at least if it's dry.

Congrats - I bet most of us have had those moments, "Okay, I shot it, now what am I going to do with it?" The good news, there is usually a way, and a story!

Shot one at the lease, by my self. Hooked up four wheeler and drug it back to camp about a mile, one side was pretty raw looking. Got to the hoist and scale went at 325 +- a little. Tree limb started to crack couldn't get head off the ground. The cooler was just big enough for hind quarters and back strap. Know your feelings. I think we all been there a time or two. Going to get one of those hoist to fit in receiver hitch that rotates, some day.

I dead lifted a 310 lb hog up into my truck bed 2 nights ago using a tow strap around his neck. Don’t know actual weight but used the chest measurement table to get the weight. I do know I’ve loaded multiple 200-250 lb hogs the same way that I weighed without much trouble but this one took every ounce of strength I had. He was much bigger than any other hog I’ve shot.

Your back will regret that in a few years.....speaking from experience.....

I already have a bad back deal with pain every day. Have had lots of injections and everything else. Do it right you don’t really even feel it in the back.

Too old to mess with dragging, packing, etc. but usually hunt by myself so I have to have a little help.
I have a Honda 4x4 ATV, an old Kawasaki Mule AND Kubota with bucket and hoe.

If it's really back in there, drag it out with Honda.
If I can pick it up, put it in Mule.
If it's too big, get the Kubota - pull up next to it and roll it in bucket or use chain and pick it up.

The Kubota has hooks on bucket - if it is light out, we string it up and clean it, then haul it home.
If it's worthy, the 550 pound scales come out.

I killed a big hog a couple years ago. Didn’t weigh him, but he was well over 200pounds. I finally had to chainsaw a path, back the ATV in, and then drag him out. Big stinky one. Used him for coyote bait.

The days are past when i’d Muscle a big hog or deer into the back of a truck or side by side. I don’t fear much, but I do fear back pain.

I don't know, but comparing size in the bed of the truck and to the firearms, this one appears much larger than the op's. I think the original 200-225 guess is much closer.

I'm no little guy, but sometimes those hogs can get the better of you. I've killed a lot of hogs over the years, with the biggest I estimated at close to the 400 lb. range. I didn't want to keep him, just move him to a different area for the coyotes and stuff to have dinner with him. I hooked up my truck and drug him down a dirt path that was out of the way, and tried to drag him off the path by hand...but couldn't move him at all (he was like trying to drag an engine block through the sand). I grabbed a limb laying nearby and tied the rope to it and really leaned back managed to drag him about a foot before the limb broke and I went hind end over tea kettle backward into the brush. After a few not so nice comments to the bugger, I got a shovel out of my truck and tried to drag him some more..which resulted in maybe a couple more feet, before I gave up entirely. I was about 10 yrs. younger then...

Guess I am different. My son shot an elk last month and it took us less than an hour from shot to back of the truck. (About 400 yards). I carried the entire elk back by myself while my Father was skinning and quartering and handing me off pieces...

I don't eat any of my hogs I just like taking pics of big hogs on the tailgate. Im not quartering any of them with or without guts.

This is what I have started doing. Fast, not much mess, no stinky guts and still get plenty of meat.

All of y'all should look into a spitz lift. They're strong enough to lift a bull Nilgai guts and all, so they will some of yalls big hogs. They collapse down enough to be stored in your truck tool box of in the back floor board.

why would I pay money for something when I can do it for free using muscle?

Mainly talking to the older guys shooting big critters regularly. I'm young and healthy enough to be with you but I've used my dads lift a couple times for loading things like generators in the bed of an f250 and it is pretty dang nice

I use a simple lift I rigged up, using an old winch off of a boat trailer. I have picked up some really heavy hogs with it, along with deer. It gets the head up high enough a guy can swing the animal over easily to get it on the tailgate. I made this up to just slide into the square hole at the corner of the bed, and involves no alterations to the truck. Couldn't figure out how to rotate picture, so I guess you have to look at it sideways.

Its all I could do to life a pig about 200 pounds. A three hundred pounder would put me in a quandary. Well done.
