Howdy,

My wife has green lighted the purchase of a small piece of hunting property 50-100 acres for us to hunt. We are looking in Coleman, Kimble, San Saba, or MCculloch but hoping to get more info from you guys as I currently hunt in Sutton - and have for years - and know very little about these counties. I am mostly a deer/hog hunter, Turkey are fine but not required.

How is hunting? Are there any areas in these counties to avoid? I believe southern Coleman is mostly dove hunting but know very little about the others or any areas that are great in even Coleman.

*I realize with this size land, neighbors and their game management or lackthereof will play a large role in a particular property*

Thanks for your help!

San Saba is very good for deer & hogs. Of course, depends on neighbors. We bought a place in SW San Saba county & have been very happy. NW part of the county water can be hard to get. Wherever you look make sure you can get a good well or have city water available. We had a place outside of Santa Anna in Coleman county before this place & the ground water was no good, but we had city water lines. One thing I have noticed is there are several wildlife co-ops in SS county & definitely helps the hunting.

I have 95.68 acres for sell in south east Menard County. Loaded with deer, turkey, free range exotics. You can contact me at 2107091014 or Steve.cheshier@gmail.com if you’d like more info.

Thank you for the responses. Steve, I looked over your listing a little while back - good looking land - but there is no surface water. Not a huge deal as tanks can be made, but at 3k an acre I'd not be willing to invest to get tanks on top of that.

I'm also not sure yet if Menard is where I want to be. I like Menard, but I like Coleman and Mcculloch a lot too and they are a little closer to home (DFW).

I have 145 acres with a three bedroom house, cultivation, three tanks, working pens for cows 2 miles south of Valera I may be interested in selling. Killed a 164 of it in October. Has a well, and Coleman county water line as well.
