What's that? Thats where I start with holds, in my head for a .308, 178 A-Max, out to 500 yards. That was my DOPE when I started with a .308 and Mils.

100 yards, 0
200 yards, .5
300 yards, 1.0
400 yards, 2.0
500 yards 3.0

When I'm shooting something with a higher BC and more velocity, I know the holds (dials) are a little less, 6.5 Creedmoor, 140 ELD-M

100 yards, 0
200 yards, .4
300 yards, 1.0
400 yards, 1.8
500 yards, 2.6

7 Rem Mag, 180 VLD

100 yards, 0
200 yards, .3
300 yards, .9
400 yards, 1.6
500 yards, 2.4

But you see, they're still close to the .308, in numbers, they're just not dropping as much (of course).

My brain remembers the plain vanilla .308 Win holds, because they're nice round numbers. I reduce as needed based on what rifle I'm carrying at the time. Last week a hog popped out about 200 yards in front of my truck, on private property, and just stood still. I opened the door, laid the LR-308 between the door and A-post, held .5 Mil on his neck, and he dropped in his tracks. No time for ranging, no need. 5X on a Mil/Mil scope worked just fine, when speed is key. The .308 load I'm shooting out of the gas gun is slower, of course, but the corrections are still pretty close:

100, yards 0
200 yards, .5
300 yards, 1.3
400 yards, 2.3
500 yards, 3.3

Again, still very close to the original plain vanilla .308 bolt action with a 178 gr A-Max, it just reauires a tad more correction.

Save Texas, kill hogs.

You got it!!! Once you understand basic trajectory, they are all about the same out to about 300-400 yards. You simply fine tune the come ups with the round you are shooting. Faster rounds vs slower rounds.

My son's Tikka T3 20" barrel in 308 shooting my 168 A-max BULK ammo at 2530 fps is similar:

In Mils
400- 2.2
500- 3.5
600- 4.8
700- 6.3

Thanks for the reminder and, very accurate. My 300WM data shows about on par with your 6.5 numbers. When season ends I'll have time to come out and verify that data.

roflmao I was just curious. I have my 7wsm running the 180s, and just recently changed my powder. 2 different chronys (one chrony on old load, different chrony on new load), but was still 100fps slower on this new powder. Going Saturday morning to check out dope before heading out west for a hunt.

roflmao

I toned it down from 3030 fps MV, to 2900 fps MV.
