This weekend, after leaving a blind, my son and I saw a buck on a hillside thrashing around a big group of cedars. As we got closer, he disappeared behind the cedars, then worked his way around again and just kept hanging around. We got up there and underneath the cedars found a doe with a broken hip and a big flesh wound on her right ham. Shot her to put her out of her misery. What would’ve done this? Coyote? I don’t think the cat would do that…
And why wouldn’t it have finished the job? Buck ran it off? Maybe we basically walked up on it?

Is there a road nearby? Maybe got hit. Or someone shot her?

Is there a road nearby? Maybe got hit. Or someone shot her? Not near a road. Not near a fence. No one else hunting in that pasture. First time I’ve ever seen anything like that. We don’t have many coyotes but recently have had a couple sightings in the area.

The flesh wound on her ham is a tine wound from the buck. She probably had multiple injuries from the bucks attempts to mount her. On 2 different occasions i have witnessed a buck inflicting fatal wounds to unreceptive doe. Its harsh, its brutal...its nature

I’d wondered if that was it but have never seen that before. Thanks for weighing in.

Did it look like a bullet wound? May have someone poaching. That’s if she for sure had a broke hip. If not my guess would be the buck

I shot an injured spike in Arkansas over thanksgiving. Its back leg was cleanly broken but no sign of struggle or fighting. Not sure what caused it either but it was definitely not a car since i hunt miles away from the nearest road.

Several years ago, just outside of San Saba, we had a 3 legged doe who got around pretty good. She was the best indicator of what was coming in than anything I've seen. Every time she looked in a direction there was something there. For several years I shot nice bucks & big doe by watching her. We called her "Hobbles" and wouldn't shoot 'cause she was always nursing fawns. She seemed to always drop twins and took pretty good care of them.
