How many coyotes do you see in a normal trip? We normally see one per day sitting in the blind and will see one roaming anytime we are out in the daytime riding around.

I know this is way too many and we are putting the hammer down on them. I want to say 6-8 down in the past two months.

We don't see them very often but we hear at least 2 different groups howling late in the evening almost every day. I think I've killed 8 this year.

if i see one , and i have a firearm, it gets shot regardless of what i'm afield for. that's
one i may not see again and have a chance for a shot at.
i'd rather be seeing fawns and calves and rabbits and squirrels and turkeys and such.

I agree, maximum. I shoot coyotes and hogs on sight.

Kill them all. I've seen fewer fawns this year than almost ever (only one set of twins, and many dry does). You could tell when the fawns got big enough to dodge them, because suddenly they were hammering our sheep and goats. Last week I heard them howling two different sunsets in the neighbors place.

I wrote this in a previous post but worth repeating: TPWD biologist study showed that one breeding pair of coyotes "can and will" kill 50 fawns during fawning season. Even if that is a bold exaggeration, which I believe it is not, they are fawn killing machines. texas rifle

I’ve killed 5 on Ft Hood in the last few months and have seen multiple I couldn’t get a shot on. Gonna spend a lot of time hunting them this winter into spring.

That's not unusual.

Kill everyone you see, and you might make a small dent.

They are 49% of the reason I have a rifle by my side at all times. The other 49% is feral hogs.

If a fawn fails to make it, there's an 80% chance it was the result of it being killed and eaten by coyotes. Weather and other predators take the remaining 20% of fawns that fail to make it.

East Texas about 2 a week, hear many many more.
Hill Country one hasn't been seen since 1992. Starting to hear them on a semi regular basis though. Matter of time.

Finally saw one this past weekend and couldn't get a good shot on it. Then had a pup in the middle of road going back to camp. Just stood 5 feet from the bumper looking at me. He got a pass. Finally saw a bobcat last weekend and bucks didn't care. He was messing with the turkey but unsuccessful. They eat our bumper crop of rabbits normally. Usually hear a rabbit getting eaten about dusk most nights. All our doe have 1 to 2 fawns this year.

Last year, while on patrol, I rounded a corner and there was a coyote running in the road carrying something in its mouth. I stepped on the gas and he dropped what he was carrying. It was an unborn deer. Later that afternoon, a resident stopped me and said he had found a doe dead up against his fence that had been killed by dogs or coyotes. Not sure who the guilty party was on that though.

We never see them. We have to get them to come out for the shot.

We shot 3 in the past week.

I have no doubt that coyotes kill deer, but I don't believe a pair kills 50 fawns or anywhere near that number.

Our property has a heavy coyote population, we do not run stock so the grass is easily 3-4 foot tall and taller in many places. You only see coyotes and even deer for the most part at feeders and on roads which is not much. If they ate anywhere near that number of fawns there would be zero deer on our property. I have seen 6 in a morning in a group and there are far more than that yet we have a healthy deer population. Most of the sightings are just a glimpse as they cross a sendero. We have taken to traps as shooting them from deer blinds is just not practical as a preventative measure.

Lol I would never have had the first deer on my place are if they killed 5 a year.

I shoot a bunch of ‘em every year. I am under no illusion that it’s making much difference.

I like predator hunting more than anything else but I don't believe it really makes much of a difference on deer population. That being said I try to shoot every coyote I see because it is so much fun.
