Would you swap the entire upper or would you simply do a barrel swap. Note: I already have an adjustable gas block and I am not new to the process I have just never swapped to a different cartridge. There are several different ideas behind this and would like to know the experts opinion on the forum.

Unless it's an $ issue, having both is nice.

Agreed, easy to swap back and forth. If you already have another 5.56/.223 what would you do?

If it was me, I'd just get another upper...the problem when it IS me, is that seeing an upper laying around only plants the seed of a nag plant in my head ans I always end up shopping for another lower. Going through this very thing right now and trying to figure out how to explain how our two ARs became four ARs. I don't think accusing the two originals of promiscuity is going to fly.

You can get another complete upper minus the BCG for $200...that's the route I would go, no doubt. Just switch your bolt back and forth. Otherwise you have to change the barrel every time you want to change calibers which sounds like a huge pain.

If you are like me you swap the barrel out.
Then you swap out the gas block.
Then you put a different free float fore end on it.
Then you look at your old parts sitting on the bench and think if I just buy a stripped upper I can build another upper and swap it out when I need it.
Then you realize you have a complete upper just siting there and it would be so much easier to just build another lower. So you buy the parts and build another lower.
Then you swap out the stock.
Then you put in a nice trigger.
Then you do a few more upgrades and look at all the left over parts...........and it continues for ever
Then you get a Savage bolt action rifle and find out how easy it is to swap barrels and calibers. It's a sickness I know, but I don't want to get well.

^^^ agreed We are in the same canoe, now would you stop paddling on the same side as me? I'm trying to figure which lower I want to buy next and you are slowing the process and the symptoms are flaring up again. Let's paddle to the temporary medication.

I've gotten to the point where I buy a stack of lowers when they go on sale. Always have 3 or 4 sitting around, a couple 80% blanks, and some lower parts kits just in case I need spare parts.
