So the rifle shoots good and has a decent trigger, but am I the only one that hates the magazine and lack of smoothness on the bolt/feeding? Rifle(s) in question are the ADL/SPS "base models" in .308 and .270, totally stock. I like the smoothness of my Vanguards in addition to their accuracy...or better yet, the Tikkas that I've shot.

First, welcome back. Where did you decide to go to college? Put a thin coat of good grease on the bolt, the back of the lugs, and the raceways. Use sparingly and work it all along the bolt to make a thin layer. A little goes a very long way. Wipe off any excess, but seriously start off with a tiny dab on a finger. This is the best for guns and well worth the price. http://brianenos.com/pages/slide-glideThis is a less costly, but still very good quality grease and works well too. https://lucasoil.com/products/grease/red-n-tacky-greaseRemove the firing pin assembly, and put a few drops of a gun oil on it. Mobil 1 works well too and one bottle will be a lifetime supply.

Thank you. I'm at the University of Houston right now, but dunno where I'll be next fall, yet.
So what you're telling me is that the coarse actions are curable? The good thing is that I don't have to deal with these rifles very often, so it's not my headache. The bad thing is, the people who own them also deal with their rifles a handful of times a year, and I basically have to tell/show them how to do it. I will show this to them if any one of them cares to smooth the bolts!

Clean it including the firing pin and spring, add the grease as noted above. It will be plenty smooth and the more it is cycled, the smoother it will become.
All bolts need grease to function properly.
Running a bolt without adequate lubrication will make it smooth due to wear.
You're welcome. Good luck in school.

Yep, welcome back. The ADL's (at least mine) come with plastic 'bottom metal' and often rounds would hang in the internal magazine box. I switched out to steel with detachable mags and it made a world of difference. Unfortunately most that only shoot occasionally do not see the value in such changes.

My newest Remington is between 10 and 20 years old, but have a handful of them. Have never experienced what you speak of. I like my little savage, but its feeding SUCKS.
Glad to see you back.

The finish on the adl is a rough texture. Rem finishes the bolt with the same. Makes for a pretty gritty feeling action. The light grease will help. I use rig. With use it will smooth out. I'm sure it is a $ saver but the polished bolts they put in the bdl & cdl would be a big improvement. Although rough as a Cobb, it does not seem to impact how they shoot.

I have three 700's; a 40-year-old BDL, a 20-year-old BDL and a 10-year-old ADL. Both BDL actions are smooth. The ADL action is rough, even though it's well broken in. I think it's due to a combination of the matte finish and production cost reductions/quality controls.
I put a Timney trigger on the ADL because the factory trigger had a little creep in it. I love the new trigger, but it did nothing for the rough action, nor did I think it would.
One other note: The ADL is a short action. The loading port is about a half inch shorter than a short-action Savage rifle in the same caliber. This can make it difficult to load and care must be taken to move each cartridge all the way to the back of the magazine box to ensure smooth feeding.

Remington's quality control has been crap in recent years. So many better guns out there these days.
