I would settle for a Winchester Timber Carbine in 450 Marlin.

Sadly, I can think of nothing I need. (I know...first world problem!)

I do like the oddball hotdog cartridges like .225 Winchester and others that have disappeared, so a really nice rifle so chambered would be pretty attractive to me. By "really nice rifle" I mean something like a custom built on a 98 Mauser, Model 70 CRF, or Montana action with a well proportioned walnut stock of the Classic configuration. When I have a shot at a good deal on something like that I'm usually strapped for funds...go figure.

Sometimes I think I'd like a Ruger RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor so I can dabble in the long range game, but I have no convenient place to shoot over 200 yards so it would be a waste.

Sometimes I think I want a Delta Elite, but I have too many nice handguns that never see daylight in the safe.

My next acquisition will likely be something that I'm n ot looking for, but just falls in my lap. I have no idea what it might be but I'm pretty sure I'll recognize it when I see it!

I'm thinking my next buy is going to be a nice .308.

Highway Man, you made me think of that ONE specific rifle I'd like to acquire: a pre-64 Model 70 in .300 H&H. I dunno why I want it---a .30-06 is just fine, but I just want it.

Pop's old 721 Remington started out as a 300 H&H then he sent it to Roy Weatherby to have it rechambered. This was in the early 40's.

That would a Remington 25-06 in a BDL early model. I'm a 'HO when it comes to BDL's.

Do not shoot one unless you are ready to buy one of those, very sweet little rifles.
The one I have shot was a full stocked with gorgeous walnut full length stock and color case hardned receiver and matching scope rings. The Case hardening was by Turnbull. Rifle is chambered in 6.5X55 and is a dang fine shooter. That one belongs to a very good friend.

Something like the 260 that Chad had put together for me, but in 221 Fireball. 20 inch barrel, slightly heavier than std sporter contour. Stainless.

Fireballs are SWEET, Lil Gun will run a 40 at 3600...I'd go a # 2.5 Barlein at 21-22" just for blast away from ears. You do love your 20" 260 so that would be a pair. A 22 will be heavier than a 6.5 all else equal, so a #2 contour might not be bad if you don't go too long. I had an SG&Y built FB, IIRC, it was 24" and between a 2 and 3 Krieger or Shilen, whichever he used. Shot Bugholes, no recoil, no barrel heating. If doing again, I would consider a 222. I see the benefits of a 221, and better accuracy than a 223, IME. You gain around 100 FPS in a 40, not that it matters. Ammo and brass supply as well as easy handling if handloading is why I might go 222 vs 221. My 221 did not always eject well after extraction in the 700 FWIW. Had zero issues with a 222 in a BDL sporter, it shot bugholes, when in an HS Stock.

Good luck if you do a build. FYI, if you do a 222, I'd twist faster to allow heavier bullet options, if you have any chance you might want to use them. The larger capacity will do better with those than a 221. Just make sure whatever you do, if you build a 221, make sure it's going to feed, extract, and eject well if you want a hunting rifle for say varmints.

Sporter style rifles are what I gravitate to. It's an either or for me. There are two I want.

Either a left hand Sako 85 chambered in 6.5 x 55SE, topped with some high end european glass.

Or a custom left hand 280 built on a 700 action. 22" light contour shilen or bartlein and a timney, sitting in a McMillan edge with a hinged floor plate. Top that off with a svelte little high quality scope,
