Of that, $2000.00 is the price of GA engraved on it.

I saw that one when I was up there on Sat. If I'm gonna drop $4600 on a rifle it better be exact specs I want. You can have GA build one to your specs for about the same.
I also held the new Seekins Havak while I was up there. It was a bit of a let down. Pretty spiral fluting but I wasn't that impressed by the action

I tend to agree that it’s a bit overpriced. The fit&finish and the trigger were really nice, but for me it doesn’t have any features that would justify that price. The only time I spent that much was for AIAT folding rifle and the bonded chassis, quick change barrel and to hell and back reliability (ha ha…that’s from Sig's literature) were some unique features that justified the price I paid.
I also saw the Seekins Havak. It’s more of a hunting setup with a thinner barrel, so I didn't even ask to check it out. What is it about the action that you didn’t like?

Name, reputation and 3/8 moa guarantee are what you're paying for. It's what the pros use. I've shot one and it doesn't really get any better. But for the price its expected.
I guess I was expecting the action on the Seekins to be smoother and the rifle to have a little more weight to it. I'd consider one for hunting but for target shooting just wasn't all that impressed.

Yup, that’s the price you need to pay for the big players. You have others that charge way more. A TacOps will be more expensive and they use a Remington action. Nonetheless, I was pretty happy and excited to see Cabela’s carrying these brands.
As for the Havak action, it seems it’s a little rough out of the box but will get much better with use.

I will never understand dropping that much money on a rifle.. or any firearm.

Parts cost alone on that rifle is over $3000. Premium parts cost premium money.
I kinda kick myself now for not getting a custom action when I built my rifles.

I never regretted the custom actions I used for past projects, Borden and Stiller. A custom is expensive, but every one I had built, ALWAYS impressed. And the ones with custom actions, well, like the Jewell triggers, not much compares. When one uses all the best parts, and uses a good Smith to assemble, you have a rifle that should shoot better than the owner can typically hold. They are precise, and consistent, and you can feel that quality, every shot and cycle of the action. Accurate rifles will spoil one and reset expectations. Nothing like shooting cloverleafs, at 100, 200, and yes even 300

Agree with most above, for the price you can build 2 or 3 perfectly good 1/2 MOA rifles. They may not be as pretty but will shoot and function just fine. Would only consider something like this if I got into the bench or rail game. P_102

Of that, $2000.00 is the price of GA engraved on it. C'mon you know the parts are expensive. At retail the parts on that are about $3k plus shipping. Some of the premium guys charges over $500 for chambering and barrel threading alone.

Have had GAP build me a rifle with Defiance action, Bart barrel, Jewell and McM edge....parts were right at $2600...paid only $1000 for the logo which included chambering, fitting, bedding, ceracoat, threaded muzzle, etc.

Point being, a rifle can be built with all the same parts, except the same action, and that rifle perform exactly the same. But not everyone knows how to gather all the parts themselves, and bring a box of parts to a great gunsmith. I get that.

An Escalade and a Yukon Denali are nearly the same vehicle, yet one is $20-30,000 more. I don't see Cadillac having problems selling them. This type of rifle is for people with Stupid money, that don't want to source all the parts, find a good smith, and wait for him to assemble it. They want to be able to walk in and walk out with a rifle that befits their (cough, cough) 'status'.
This is a win for both parties. GAP gets name recognition out of it, and Cabelas has something on the shelf to sell 'those' people.

Most typical hunters could probably shoot 2-MOA rifles and never know they were shooting something "sub-par." Once you know what's possible, though, it's easy to want more than you're getting. I sure don't need cloverleaf accuracy at 300, but I'd like to have it...and I'd go for it if I didn't want so many different rifles, and particularly traditional sporter weight hunting rifles. Sometimes I think of dumping everything and getting into just two or three high dollar customs, but something in me won't go there. We're all unique in our approaches and our views.

Is it just me or does the fact that GA rifles are now offered at a big-box store make them a little less appealing?

When you shoot a full custom that is built right.... it's FABULOUS! Tony built my 6.5x47L on my Surgeon action, and it will stack the bullet in the same spot at 800 yards. Last time at Jason's I put 2 bullets in the same splash on the center of the 1 moa plate (8" plate). It is stupid accurate. I'm sorry, but a factory rifle will not do this. Put together a custom rifle and feed it quality ammo tuned to the rifle, and you have yourself a tack driver. And it doesn't have to be that expensive to do it.

This is my everyday struggle. I don’t shoot as much as I’d like to. When I do, I tend to use my premium guns. I have guns that don’t get shot. There is nothing wrong with them and I always find an excuse to keep them. I’d also like to have a variety of guns, but I have to resist the urge on a daily basis and try to reason myself…..Don’t buy a PPQ…You’ve had other handguns and you always went back to your Glocks…You know you’ll end up shooting your modified Glock that has nice 4lbs trigger….BTW remember how difficult it was to detail strip the slide of that P226 ….Don’t buy that AK47….You already have a nice AR15 that you haven’t shot for over a year…..Don’t buy that Tikka 223 Varmint…..You already have a sub 1/2 moa 223 with CDI bottom metal that you rarely shoot…You know that you’ll have to reload to get good accuracy and you barely have time to reload your 260s for long range….

I just ordered a Havak in 6.6 creedmoor. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it! I'm also under the impression the action is a little rough at first but certainly improves with a few hundred cycles. Glen Seekins explained the reasoning on another forum...he said some of the packing material is winding up in the action and causing some of the grind. Also the mags lips are grinding on the bolt a little when new which is also alleviated by use.

I don’t get the barely concealed disdain though. If a guy is not a gun nut but wants a Cadillac rifle, that’s what they do. And for a guy who makes $500 - $1000 an hour doing whatever his “thing” is, it’s not even “stupid” money - because spending 6 hours messing around with finding/ordering parts is $3000 - $6000 to him. Doesn’t have anything to do with “status”. Can’t a non-gun nut have a super-accurate rifle too? (I see the same discussions in OT with guys giggling at other guys who don’t change their own oil or mow their own yards.) Not everyone lives in the same financial world.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.
