For those of you who have the opportunity to shoot Prairie dogs, what caliber do you use?
I have the opportunity to shoot dogs in south texas for the first time.
Was considering taking my 22-250.
Thoughts?

It is plenty of gun, question is it accurate enough for an occasional 300 yd or more shot?

Thanks for the comments/info. I have been considering getting a 17 or 17wsm
DLALLDER, yes it is accurate out to 300 yards. I have used it several times at a 500 yard range.
FYI, it is a Ruger 1, a real sweet tack driver.

if wind is a factor and most p.d. hunts that will be a factor, heavier bullet is king, 22-250 is a great round, like every thing else what ever you like, it will be fun...before I got laid up with this back thing I bought a 22-250 with a 1-9 twist, had the barrel threaded and have a can for it, used to hunt p.d.'s in S.W. Ks. hoping I can go again someday.

colt45, yes, it's always windy. Good point. Good luck with the back. Been there done that, and still dealing with it.
Hope you get back to S.W. Ks. as well. Good luck and I'll say a prayer for you !

I think that's considered West Texas....not South Texas

Favorite is a 220 Swift. I have several rifles set up for PD's,one a Broughton 22BR build just for them. Are you hunting that town north of Marathon? 223--22-250 will work great on them.

Revoman, Just all around Marathon. Only town I am aware of north is Fort Stockton. There may be a smaller community north but I am not aware of it.
