So been huntin' with my boys since Friday morning at our ranch near Sheffield. Been after whitetails mostly except my 11yr old. He's been hunting our windmill every evening where we keep a round bail of alfalfa and several Axis have been coming in. We have several bucks on camera and he was set on getting his first.
Well both evenings pass with no luck for him tho he did see a big Axis in velvet still growing and passed. Very proud of him.
Mom decides Sunday at lunch she's had enough and headed home. My oldest is worn out from working the mountains the previous two days and decides to go back with her. I tell him thats a bad idea.
Well guess who sat in his stand that evening?
Several Axis showed up 30 minutes before dark and the largest would not present a shot. He kept moving and running whitetails off. So this buck comes struttin' in and the good ole 6.5 CM 143gr ELD-X did its things. Complete pass-thru @ 120yds and double lunged him. Went 30yds and dropped. Haven't been this pumped up in awhile!
Took the rope to him and he measured right at 30" on both sides. Couldn't be happier!
