Rut is on or about to really kick up and deer everywhere. Only saw one mature guy broken on one side though and sky lighted another behind me but saw over 20 deer. Saw a nice buck at 2:30 on neighbors place by camp pushing a doe hard. Hope a big one comes out now not broken off.
And rattlesnakes still out. One of our guys got one with the truck tonight.

Man it is windy. I can barely hold my binos still. I feel like I’m hunting in a wind tunnel or hurricane crazy but I’m seeing does.

Got to blind in short sleeves and had to get jacket on by 7. Only two little bucks early. I am ready for some Red River Pizzeria in Nocona to get out of this hurricane.

Hunted this morning and didn't see a thing. Very unusual, and the conditions were perfect. Anyone else have luck over the weekend?

Was out this morning as well. Only saw 4 doe in the gale force winds yesterday. I thought this morning was going to be a bust. Sat in a blind until 8:00, nothing, then moved to another spot. Saw 7 for and 1 8 point cruising through at 9:15. That was about it. Nothing much to speak of on cameras as well this week. Very odd. Last two years during this time the bucks were chasing. Maybe another week until the rut kicks in?

Had a group of pigs come out at the last minute tonight. Took 1 down. Only saw a small 4 pt and 1 doe at 2:30pm. Both deer were eating corn. Hopefully this week is better though.

This morning was pretty good. Turkey flew down from roost next to us and bobcat was trying to get them so that was cool. I think he was unsuccessful as he strolled right in front of us with nothing. Saw 2 small bucks and nice older 8 right st the ears esting. Then mom and 2 young ones a little later. One of our guys kids took a spike.
Last night 3 younger bucks dogged a doe in front of us for a while.
And we had a very nice non-typical on camera in Sept and not seen since. Another neighbor had a pic. Only nighttime pics so not much detail. Well, our other neighbor whose camp is next to ours and we share fence with them took it bow opener. He showed me the pics. Unreal 19 point. Probably score close to 170 or more.

Seeing very little. Wondering where they all went.

So do we think we missed the rut? I'm thinking its coming up quickly. Maybe this unseasonable warm weather has slowed them down? Just really odd.

Saw 2 doe, 1 small 8 pt this morning so far. The doe ate corn but the 8 pt skipped on feeding and kept walking. Not in any rush at all though. Checked cameras for first time in 3 weeks and the big bucks are no where to be found. I wonder if the prime rut time is about to go down once the majority of doe are in heat.
Guy on our place took a big funky buck last Monday and he said he saw 10 bucks that day so I hope we didn’t miss the rut.

I'm a few miles south of Nocona. At 10:30am yesterday I saw a wide 8 pointer trailing a doe at 10:30am in the middle of a pasture, out in the wide open right next to a county road. I think the rut is still on. In my area it typically seems to run through Thanksgiving.

They don't go and eat. One of our kids shot a 10 Friday night chasing doe full speed and it stopped amazingly in front of him. I had deer flying through Friday night. Only mature guy I saw had a doe penned up and wouldn't let anyone near him and only came into view a few times to kick deer from his area. Might have to sit all day.

Well that's good to read, hopefully they'll still be at this week. Just odd, typically we'll see a lot more buck activity - I hunted from 3 different locations on Sat and Sun and only one yielded a young 8 cruising. The does I did see all seemed skittish. So I think there were bucks lurking.
Heading out on Friday and may be even on Wednesday if I can convince the wife of the dire need to be in the field.
