If I'm sighting in a new 7mm-08 weatherby vanguard series 2 in the morning, what bullets should I buy? Give me weights and brands please? I belaive the twist is a 1:9, not positive though. Waiting on you FiremanJG

A quick search on Midway USA showed the world believes everyone should be shooting a 140 gr bullet, out of a 7mm-08. I shoot 162gr hand loads. I haven't bought centerfire ammo in years, but I tend to lean on Hornady and Federal when it comes to reommendations.

I will help JG out by asking whats your intended use ? Hunting/ shooting target/steel and how far.

Thank you DStroud.
One more thing, clean that brand new barrel. It is guaranteed to have oil, and possibly metal chips from machining. It could take a few rounds of fouling before it acts right.

If only shooting factory ammo buy a box & try them, if you don't have good results buy another box or two in different grain bullets and try them. The rifle will tell you which ammo it likes. We that reload can tune the powder charge to make a given bullet shoot well as long as we have the correct twist in the rifling.
No doubt about the AR crap, just damn shame hunters don't have self control and knowledge

I would start with a 140gr Hornady.

I bought a vanguard in 7mm-08 when you couldn't find powder and reloading supplies very easily. I tried two different bullets, both shot sub-1" groups. Both were 140 gr bullets adequate for deer. The PRVI 140 grain shot the best in mine, just above a .5" group. The other was some Hornady 140 gr. That one shot just under an inch. Both were 3 shot groups.

I hunt exclusively with Nosler Ballistic Tips. The bullet works fine for deer and hogs, and I have a double sack of BTs in every caliber. If not for that, and if I had no bullets, id go to Nosler Accubonds, and id shoot 140s in a 7-08.
Still, the BTs are extremely accurate and kill like lightning. The 9 point I shot this morning went maybe 40 yards from impact point. Entrance wound was the size of your little finger. Lungs were destroyed, and the exit wound was a bit smaller than a quarter. You really cant expect better performance from a bullet. So, unless you are moose or elk hunting, the Nosler BT will work just fine. Ive used it on 150 to 200 deer over the decades, and im still happy with it.

Well, just got back from Academy with a box of 140gr Fusions. They didn't have any of the Hornady American Whitetail that I prefer out of my 243. Hope the gun likes them!

A 2800fps 140 Nosler accubond is very hard to beat.

I've used Fusions in several different calibers. Its always made stuff dead and is fairly accurate

I'd try any of Federal, Hornady, and WW Silvertips in factory, would avoid RP Corelokts, - yes they work, but the old bullets were 139s, the new CL is not as accurate of a bullet in my former handloads.
The 140 Ballistic Tip and Accubond would be my top pick, but anything 120-140 outside a reduced recoil round will do what you need if the bullet hits it's mark.

I am late to this but if you reload I would shoot 120 NBT and I do. It is a hammer on whitetail and the one hog I shot.
