Looking at getting AR15 in 6.5 Grendel or AR10 in .308. I reload for .308 already, but not the 6.5.
Which One? Hmmmm

I'm a lover of the 6.5mm, but I would go with the .308, over the Grendel, it hits hard! I've got a 16" LR-308, and it does a fine job. Its really not that heavy, either.

Of course, you could split the difference. Get an AR-10 in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Between those two, .308 and it's not close for me.

The Grendel has a lot more going for it than you might think. I'd choose it over the .308 for the new and different experience, and it comes in a lighter and handier gun. It'll work fine on hogs and Texas deer within reasonable ranges with good bullet selection.

I'm voting .308 for a number of reasons. I've owned four: Armalite AR10, DPMS Recon .308, Sig Patrol 716, and my current M&P10. I also have an odd-ball bullpup Kel-Tec RFB. .308 is available on any shelf that sells ammunition. There are a lot of variety of loads. Mil-Spec ammo is cheap for plinking. It'll take down anything in Texas. Most rifles use common SR25 magazines, of which the Magpul are my favorite. It is easy to reload for and find components for. There is a plethora of reload data for the .308. A well configured rifle won't weigh more than a pound over an AR15. It'll have less recoil than likely any .30 caliber you've ever shouldered up to.
The only negative, for me, about the .308 is that I like shooting it so much that my ammo costs can bite me in the wallet.

I have a Grendel, and I can’t say enough good things about it. I did a lot of research, and compared a lot of different options in AR’s for a deer and pig rifle, before going with the Grendel. I think it’s just right. Load up some Hornady 123 grain bullets, and it’s quite deadly.
Either option is killer. I just think the Grendel is a little more ideal.

So, Sneaky...do you believe there's anything at all in Texas you cannot put on the ground with that Grendel? I'm as much a fan of 3000, 3300, 3500, and 3900 fps as anyone else is, but the truth is you can kill anything if you put the right bullet in the right place with enough velocity to work like it's supposed to. I know of some modern spitzers designed to work at impact velocities as low as 1200 fps (Nosler LRAB). I'm not sure what the minimum performance velocity is for the 123-grain SST, but I'm pretty sure the Grendel can deliver it out to several hundred yards.

ROFL - went against the poll data ...and a good move, go figure. Well to be fair the poll choices were both good moves but the point I was making is the Thread Title is "Pick it" So, it would have been better to say which do you prefer at the moment

I was making unspoken reference to the thundering herd mentality so evident here at THF. Over a period of 15 short years, the .270 Winchester and .25-06 have both become impotent hunting cartridges and you must have a 1/2-MOA hunting rifle or you'll starve.
I guess it's not unspoken anymore.

If you read enough of this stuff you figure out who knows what they are talking about and who is just repeating what a previous parrot has said. Because of this, "herd mentality", I consciously make it a point to keep my mouth shut if it's not a subject I know well.
