I hunt a small property in San Jacinto/Montgomery counties that back up to the Sam Houston National Forest. Haven't had a chance to go, but from what I hear seeing a deer is considered a trophy.

Edwards County LF. If you let the deer get old, 130s is a very good buck. 140s is a great buck. Lots of deer will top out below that and be old shooters. Some get bigger (have shot a 150 and seen a 165 shot by another hunter), but that's rare.
Never have any trouble finding meat. Lots of axis and some big ones. Lots of turkeys.

Hunt Duval Co. Have shot a few deer in the 140's and consider them to be trophy's.

Montague and most mature are 120 to 130 but trophy is 150+. We had two of those on camera early this year and one was taken during youth next door and the 170ish taken by our other neighbor during bow. Another 150+ taken next door too. Before this year nothing has been that big around though. The deer move a ton here so there is no patterning, just lucky. Lots of pressure so most won't take a buck but every few years. People think they grow on trees.
