So my 17th wedding anniversary is this weekend. Today my wife found out her mom fell, thought to have broken a hip and ended having to go to the hospital. Mother in law is fine - no broken bones, just dehydrated, bruised and embarrassed - but they're keeping her in the hospital for a few days for observation. Needless to say, my wife took across three states to be with her mom in recovery and back home on Monday.

1. My initial reaction was for the welfare of my mother in law - check all good!
2. Realizing that I will be without the misses for the first time on our anniversary - bummer
3. Next realization, she'll be gone all weekend! bummer again
4. Rut is firing up in Montague - hmmm this is starting to work in my favor!
5. Hunting all weekend without distraction - best anniversary gift ever!

Am I wrong, what says the masses?

Just don't smile too big when the wife gets home, her weekend is probably not going to be as much fun as yours.

Way to turn water to wine! Enjoy the hunt!

learn something new everyday and you will have never wasted a day.

Just be glad the MIL is OK. Use a diplomatic approach, first tell the wife you have something planned for the anniversary after you get back from hunting, then go hunting.

Two sets of flowers to the hospital; one for MIL one for bride. Order a meal and have it delivered to the hospital for anniversary night.

Hunt your heart out.

Pick her up at airport and you’re a hero!

Just an after thought, why did you get married during the RUT?

You can always play the "I was completely bummed sitting around the house missing you on our anniversary and worrying about your mother that I needed to head to the lease to clear my mind".

Sage advice from everyone - thank you. I'm glad I have the support from many of you.

Yes, 2 sets of flowers sent. Good idea on the dinner to be delivered. Will get that in works.

Hopefully I'll get my man card back one day.

Also, my wife has a pretty good sense of humor, I told her what I posted and she laughed.

grin

PS. I wasn't too bright 17 years ago. I should have thought about the rut. I now recall why some of my friends were none to happy with the wedding date.
