2 weeks ago I caught 2 hogs in my corral trap. I have a rooter door but the other hogs did not try to go in it. Those hogs saw the 2 in the trap. I’m thinking ok whatever I still have 2 in the trap. I checked the camera last weekend and I have pics of hogs crowded around the open door all week regardless if it was set or not. They would not go in it. They would just look at the corn inside and just stand outside of the trap. Do y’all have any advice besides moving it?

Change your bait. Are you just using straight corn? I always soured mine in a bucket of water with some cherry Kool-Aid mixed in.

I sour corn and also cover the bottom of the cage to cover up the metal so when they walk in the are walking on dirt and not metal..

Agreed
Also, to out smart the hogs you can use this.

Otherwise, wait until the less intelligent ones start going in. You will never trap ALL the hogs. Let's not forget that hogs are smarter than our dogs and our dogs are smarter than some people we know, it seems anyway. I've gone weeks with nothing in the traps until a different sounder showed up and even then, as you already know, you only catch the dumb ones.

I will grant you that hogs are smarter than many hunters, but if comparing to people, hog IQ falls somewhere around that of a 3-4 year old child that is paranoid of strange things, likely is afraid of people, and has a great sense of smell and hearing and visual capability better than that of humans in various manners. So stop building traps and using hunting tactics that would outsmart a 1-2 year child and work on traps and tactics that would beat a 10 year old child.

When my game cameras tell me that I've got some trap-wary hogs, I'll lock the trap door open for a few days or a week, spread some corn around the entrance, and let 'em get comfortable that there's no danger. Then I set the trap door and get ready to harvest some piggies! I've gotten about 90% of the sounders; only some of the oldest and wisest stay outside the trap.

^^THIS^^

It's not a bad idea to tie it open for a few days off and on when they slow down too.

It's kinda like when a flock of birds flying tightly suddenly turn on a dime and all at the same millasecond. Kinda like they all work off of the same brain but with different bodies. Either that or they have board meetings once a week talkin pig talk about hunters. They may even squirt out bad sinsie pooop that says stay away. Death is probable. Most of the time they pack up and move on down the way. A lone boar might not, but will batch up with more boars a couple times a year like bucks. In the long run the bazzterds aint goin anywhere in our lifetime. Ask Marty Stoufer about that. He has a great hog documentary.

Recently got a gym membership, strange folks! I like to show up the roid zombies with my full motion curls with the 55lb. bells. Not their cheater short stroked light weights. It's holarious.

The hogs I have hunted behind this church run as soon as my infrared device lights up. They can't see ir light but the glow in the light they know it means death. I have changed tactics several times for this herd. There is also a Hugh trap in the rear of the property they has had corn for months now but the hogs will not go in.

Ha! Marty Stouffer...staged many of his videos. I don't think I would trust any of his insights.

This works for us. We run 3 different traps around the place and rotate the one baited.

Not ALL hogs are smart. Be sure they understand what you want them to do. wink

I thought corral traps are the opentop types. Anyhow, my experience is that after we kill the trapped hogs it only takes a few days for the new ones to get in.
