Got trail cam photos of a pretty 11 pt. Ive only killed 6 deer in my life and my son has shot 2. We dont need the meat so Im trying my best to be selective.

When I first got the trailcam photos, the 6 picture collage, I thought this deer looked really young. Decided Id much rather shoot a mature 8 and let this guy pass on his genetics and grow.

Well he was first buck we saw this weekend. I had already made up my mind that we werent going to shoot him so I just snapped a bunch of pictures of him.

Now Im looking at the pictures and he looks older in the pictures I took Saturday morning.

So was my initial assessment correct, or am I underestimating his age.

Pics are 6 weeks apart.

He has by far the biggest horns Ive seen, but trying to shoot more based on age.

This is in Burnet County and I just find all the deer look so much smaller body wise than what Im used to seeing in Fisher County.

I think you're losing a bit of the quality on that DSLR :-)

Thats not a DSLR. Lose one out of a boat with all the kids Christmas pics and my wife doesnt much appreciate me taking "her" good camera out and about.

Will try to download some from the card rather than taking a picture of the screen.

He's too young to shoot, those long legs tell you everything you need to know.

Everyone tells me if my son doesnt shoot him someone else will.

My response is always, if you shoot a deer because you are worried another guy will shoot the deer, then you are THAT guy that you are worried about.

I figure if I am not sure, I probably need to pass. I figure this is one that has ability to turn into a true giant if we give him time.

Yup, he's on the verge of greatness. Hold off and hope he makes it
