I'm thinking about building an old-fashioned "treehouse" kind of blind in my woods near a dedicated hog feeder. Wanting it to be a platform with low walls that you can sit on a standard-height chair and be concealed from below, and with no roof or windows. I'm wondering what options I have for attaching the platform base supports to the trees without nailing or screwing bolts into them. I've seen it done long ago using wire tightly wrapped around the tree, but I don't have a lot of confidence in the weight-supporting capabilities of that. Plus, over time the wire gets grown into the trees.
So should I just go ahead and nail/bolt the supports into the trees and hope that the trees aren't damaged?
Or give up the idea and just build a platform on top of 16' 4x6s?

This would be a good starting point.

They have special bolts for attaching to trees.

Don’t know- have used some to secure ladder stands to trees and they tend to weather poorly. May have to end up bolting it to the trees but I really don’t want to.

Nail it, built a few large tree houses when I was a teen,(50 years ago) have driven by the trees since and they are fine. Treehouse was still in one of them.

Well, it's mostly me and they're my trees. So yes, personal safety will be factored into the equation. That being said, I'd hate to lose a 150 year old oak when there aren't many to spare on my place...

if it is permanent you can use cable but you will need to anchor with eye bolts. Anything permanent. the tree is going to grow around the anchors.
