Anybody ever use one? My friend sent me a picture of his new rifle and he had his turret customized for his hand loads. (The term he used has slipped my mind) just wondering if anybody has hands on experience? Seems like a more popular brand in Wyoming, Montana.

That is a BDC turret. Their claim to fame is that ANY hunter can use their shooting system to shoot long range say 700 yards.

Having fired many weapons at many targets, ranging from point-blank to well over 1,000 yards, I can say with some authority that there is no easy 700 yard shot that "any hunter" can take on game. Hell, I'd go so far as to say most hunters shouldn't attempt anything over about 300 yards. There is ethical hunting, and there is this drivel.

Yes, they are very nice scopes. But, they turn a perfectly good MOA turret into a BDC turret programmed to your ammo and EXACT ballistics in one environmental condition (temp, pressure, altitude, humidity, etc). If you are shooting in those conditions, you are fine. Get out of those conditions, and you induce error into the turret. The guys I have seen run these have the "custom" laser range finder programmed to their ammo, and have spent THOUSANDS of money into the rifle, ammo, LRF, and scope set up. It works when used correctly. But I field A LOT of phone calls concerning these type BDC scopes, and often times it only adds to their confusion. This type set up is only good for this certain set up with THAT rifle, ammo, scope turret. IMO, learn how to dial in MOA or mils, and you can learn how to correct for elevation in ALL your rifles, not just the one.

I have a 5-20 on one of my rifles...I have it tuned with 2 turrets....it works, and the scope has held zero since 2008...

BDC's are amongst the longest running of jokes. The less one "knows" or "does",the "better" they are.

BDC's are a frilly wrapper on a turret, that simply tracks in either MOA or Mils and greatly curtails the inherent latitude and simplicity of a lineal scale.

There is nothing redeeming in Huskemaw optics or mechanics and in overview, the approach is rather hilarious................

Facts and Physics are handy foundations, from which to build upon.

Nobody has more disdain for BDC's,than I.

Pun be intended, for them in the loop..............

They are not a bad scope for the money. Decent glass, pretty good mechanics, capped turrets for the hunter, 80 MOA internal adjustments & .33 MOA per click. The feature I like the best is the reticle. Not a big fan of the BDC turret though.

I have owned a couple in the past and was never disappointed with them.

They do offer a MOA turret that can be used instead of the BDC which will make the scope more versatile. For someone that is sold on the BDC turret they really should invest in a range finder that can be programmed to return shot corrections based on the turret data. A range finder with that capability is going to cost more than the scope.

Like "special ordering" a clock, that only tells time twice a day. Hell...a broken one will "do" that.

Hint..............

Funny you should mention that. They used one the other day, and corrected the yardage/dial for the conditions. 'It's 738 but it's going to shoot like 760' was the gist.

Yeah. You need a range finder that will not only return the correct range but also adjust for the “shoot to yardage” to take into account the real time environmental conditions compared to the what the BDC turret was set up for.

The only ones that I know of are the Gunwerks G7 range finders and they start at around $1400.
If you’re willing to make the investment in one, then the biggest negative to a BDC turret is the yardage being engrave in 25 yard increments. This isn’t too bad inside of four or five hundred yards but as the distance grows the markings start to grow farther apart and you have to shooting experience/best guess the clicks in between. Not necessarily a deal breaker but definitely not ideal.

Not sure I would call it junk.
I’ve never used a BDC turret but I have used the G7 pretty hard for six years.
