While I watch these 3 mature does at the feeder, getting more and more concerned about something. 314 acres far north Brown County, healthy doe population, more 1 and 2 year old bucks than I've had in years, and I have not seen a SINGLE fawn since the start of bow season. Not in person, or on camera. I know I have a coyote problem, but surely it isn't THAT bad.......

Might be that bad. We've killed 7 or so with snares this past year. Or you could invite SapperTitan to your place. He's a varmint killing machine.

I have killed 1 or 2 yotes every deer season for more years than I can remember. That's the ones that cross my path. Never had any luck calling, although I plan on trying again next spring.

Left my last lease because the landowner got upset when I shot a coyote. He told me they eat baby pigs. That did it for me.

I hunted a place on the Brown/Comanche county line for about 12 yrs and had a healthy yote, pig and deer herd. We never killed the amount of doe that we needed to so I think the totes helped keep the deer herd healthy. When I saw a coyote I would shoot them but we never called them in...just shot the ones we saw. I averaged around 4 a year or so. I think they can be beneficial if you don't do your part in managing the deer herd.

I don’t think it is just that. We are seeing the same thing on our place. We expected an outstanding fawn crop this year because of the herd health and last four years of good weather and rain.

We have seen the opposite. Very few fawns. One of my buddies flew our ranch and 4 others and agreed the fawns are down across the area.

We have coyotes but very few compared to most places. I have shot one in 24 years and most our hunters haven’t seen many. Rancher is running snares. Until two years ago, we had a State trapper that stayed on them hard and they will still shoot them out of helicopters.

We are currently coming up with different theories, but that’s all they are.

Wasn’t seeing any fawns on my new place despite fact it had ideal habitat & unhunted/Undisturbed for last 20 years. cameras everywhere - plenty of does & bucks - most mature. Heard yotes every night. Finally setup & shot a HUGE yote- first one that came in. Buddy shot one following weekend.
Finally saw first fawn following spring, then even twins late that spring. Have been seeing them since- kinda cool to watch mama take them around the property to every persimmon, pecan, & pear tree for ‘goodies’.

So far this year we've seen the exact same thing. No fawns, and we've always had coyotes, but this year it seems like I've been hearing more than in years past. Had one barking at us as we filled a feeder before the season, and never had that happen before.
Saw one yesterday but he was too far and too quick.

Coyotes and bobcats are hard on deer, most hunters just don't know how deadly they are on deer.

We usually have fawns like crazy in Mills Co. I saw four doe/fawn pairs yesterday, everyone was a single. I've seen two without as well. I suspect coyotes because when the fawns got big enough to escape our livestock started getting hit hard. We kill every coyote we see.

For what it is worth: According to a TPWD biologist study a breeding pair of coyotes can/will kill 50 fawns a year. personally I believe this and it may be a low average of what damage they do in some areas.

Our family (I'm the last one standing) has owned this place since the mid 80s, never seen this before. Has to be predators, because I had pics of fawns back in the summer, now nothing. They say it is far easier to call coyotes in the spring, going to make a concerted effort next year.

Pressure they heck out of the coyotes in June and July when the fawns are dropping.
