When the Quagga mare at Amsterdam Zoo died on 12 August 1883, it was not realized that she was the very last of her kind. Because of the confusion caused by the indiscriminate use of the term “Quagga” for any zebra, the true Quagga was hunted to extinction without this being realized until many years later.

Today, 143 years later, they are back, roaming the plains of South Africa again.

That is pretty cool. Did you use selective breeding to get a population with that type of stripe pattern to have a quagga-like zebra?

I was not the one involved, but here is the website with all the information about how the Quagga was bred back.
