How many rounds are you guys/gals getting before accuracy suffers? Assume you get copper fouling, curious on how you clean your bores and how often?
What has been your experience on Coyotes, what ammo/range/shot placement?
Thanks in advance

I can shoot several boxes before I notice any change in accuracy. I don't clean until accuracy degrades.
I have had no issues with coyotes at close ranges, its not a long range coyote killer...

Winchester Varmint HV 30 grain. Have killed coyotes with it at 100+- yards no problem.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

The 22mag and the 17 rimfire calibers will kill coyotes..... just like it does deer and pigs. That is under ideal circumstances with good shot placement and going to look for them most times. If you are ok with that then carry on.

Indeed, Shot placement is always #1, before my shot. I understand it has limitations, just wanting to get a sampling of those who have effectively used them, and the best load/placement for success, and what range.
I dumped a yote on the run with a Ruger 22 LR pistol, around 60-70 yds, Shot over/under, then the 3rd at the base of the skull. A Mag rifle obviously has that residual fps around 200 yds, I intend to keep shots within 150, if not 100. Curious if an expanding bullet thru lungs, is as effective as say a TMJ thru the skull. Not so confident with a TMJ thru the chest, but sure they work, less confident if a JHP will get thru the skull, as I realize construction, angle, and distance matter. I do get the impression that 40-50s work better overall based on various feedback on forums.
It would not be for long shots, only called in or random close encounters, if you will.
Thanks folks.

A 40gr JHP will do the job just about anywhere you hit a yote inside of 100 yds. I have an old H&R .22 mag autoloader, and recently tested three CCI loads, one Winchester, and one Armscor. Surprisingly, the 40gr Arsmcor was the most accurate of the bunch, posting a 1" 10 shot group at 50 yards.

I have used a 22 mag extensively since I was about 13...I am now 42. CCI maxi mag +V 30 grain has been my go to for some time. I have a grizzled ol HK 300 my parents bought me for my birthday(it was new back then). As far as cleaning I run a bore snake thru it and accuracy has been very good. It wears a fixed 4x Zeiss and most of my shots are 150 yards or less (most with in 75). This 22 mag is one of my favorites--as I know it was a stretch for my parents to buy it and they knew I really wanted it...good memories.

A Mag rifle obviously has that residual fps around 200 yds, I intend to keep shots within 150, if not 100. It would not be for long shots, only called in or random close encounters, if you will. Have you looked at how much energy the 22mag has left at 150-200yards, say, compared to a better for coyotes center-fire like 22-250 or 223? I'm not saying it will bounce off but will it expand and penetrate? Is it ethical? I hate hogs. I used my mag on them a few times, just the little 30 pounders and under. This was at 60 yards. I quit doing that because even though I hate hogs, I don't like to hear them suffer. Hit em with something that is sure to take em out at it's effective range so it's over quick. I hate hogs. That mag of yours is good to go on coyotes with an expanding bullet for sure, within it's effective range.

Great feedback gang, thanks. 505 - nice unique rifle/scope set up.
Having studied ballistics all my life, I know a WMR is a peon on paper vs a 221-223+ round, yet I also trust real world experience as many hunters often use far excess power than needed, and no substitute for shot placement. No doubt a centerfire is a better all around tool, especially as the range grows.
Thanks again all.
