Had a deer rifle that I loved for about 5 years in 7x57, it liked factory 140gr Core Lokts and I killed everything I shot at with it, literally everything I shot at except maybe a pig or two on the run. Long story, but traded it off. Since then have been farting around with different guns, reloading my own ammo, etc and have not been real happy for some reason. Think I am trying to hard. Bought a 1961 Model 70 FW 30-06 off a guy last year, went and bought some $14/box Winchester 150gr power points and went to the range this morning. Had to remount the Redfield 3x9 Widefield because it was too far forward, 2 shots at 25 yds to zero. Moved to 100 yds and 2nd group right where I want it, 7/8". Not bad, glad I didn't trade it off last year. Will be my goto deer rifle this season.

You gotta love a rifle that shoots well with cheap, common factory ammo.

You gotta love a rifle that shoots well with cheap, common factory ammo. Fact. Especially since today we had a brand new Rem 700 .300 Win Mag, on Hornady Superformance that did not give me the warm and fuzzy. Next is a Timney, that I told him to get last week. Probably a stock swap and bedding. After that, I'm gonna blame ammo, if it's still not behaving. Remington is not making me very happy with their QC.

I got the warm and fuzzies with this one, we'll see if its long term. Posted this and the later in the day got my Springfield 1903 sporter back from the smith. About 9# of feel good walnut and steel. See what happens next range trip

I have a Sako .243 that would shoot 100gr core-loks in the same hole. I have had this gun for over 20 yrs shooting this ammo. I took it out the other day to check zero. It was all over the place. I was shooting a couple of other rifles so I focused on them. Took it home and patch swabbed it and took it back to the range a few days later with new box of remington Ammo. It shot a lot better, but not quite as well as before. Now I have doubts on the gun/ammo combo. I think I will try something else and see what results I get.

Core-Lokts are inherently inaccurate. They might used to have not been, but there's too many people saying they are now. And I've NEVER had a rifle shoot them well.
A Sako "all over the place", yeah that's an ammo problem, not a rifle problem.

I bought 7x57 corelokts as that was about the only thing offered off the shelf in that caliber when I bought it and they killed stuff dead. "gun liked" meant I could group about an inch at 100yds. Dude I bought the 30-06 off of gave me a box of 165gr Corelokts with this rifle and said it shot them well. He wasn't a gun guy and based his reasoning on the fact that he could bust water jugs out past 100yds with them. I think 165's are a little big for deer so bought the Winchesters mainly because they were on sale at Walmart for $13.98, went back and got another 3 boxes yesterday. Have heard a lot of bad things about Corelokts lately also, mainly on here.
About the only Remington products I am interested in these days is your older 870's, 1100's, and model 11's. New stuff seems to be garbage and that 700 trigger thing has me leary of buying any older ones.

Last box of core-lokts I tried in my 788 .243 grouped about 3", and it used to be a 1" or so gun with them. I switched first to Win BSTs, when those were hard to find I moved to Hornady Superformance 95gr SSTs. I have some doubts about the SSTs performance on game but they shoot well and that is a backup gun, pretty much.
Two years ago I bought some Core-lokts in .308 to use in a pinch/use as foulers. I chronographed the first 6 shots and the spread was 170 fps between fastest and slowest. If that doesn't tell you how bad the quality is, I don't know what to tell you.

Conversely, I shot some el cheapo Wally World blue box federal 150 grain 7mm RM ammo through a chronograph last year and the speed ran within about a 20 fps spread. I can't tell you how surprised I was.

It appears they're doing something right at Federal.

Used the empties to reload with sierras and they are winners.

Biggest thing I would be a skeptic of is the superperformance ammo, that stuff might shoot ok for some, but I hear many people complain about poor groupings. While I hear and see people replacing factory tupoware stocks all the time the vast majority change them before they ever shoot it.

Chad told me yesterday that stuff is built only to go fast, not shoot accurately. I told the owner of the rifle that. Reviews of it on Midway USA is 4.5 stars. But I place more value on Chad's knowledge.
The factory tupperware stock is too short for him anyway, he's a dang viking.

I have found the super performance ammo to be very accurate and them to be very consistent over the chrony. I have a 35 whelen that shoots 3 shot groups at 100yds .38 that's outside to outside so not far off caliber size. As for core-lokts most guns shoot them accurate enough for hunting purposes. And they do kill things well. I bet out if every 100 head we kill 80 are shot with them. And gun quality plays a big part in how a bullet shoots. My NULAs all shoot under a 1" with anything you drop in them. And I have had Remington had to reload and reload till you find that perfect combo. But ammo is the cheap solution so that's what we change.

I think cartridges like the Whelen are an interesting case. When I went tbrough load development with mine, I noticed that the incremenral velocity increases as I upped the charge were quite modest. Maybe this has something to do with .35 Whelen Superformance ammo working well. Relatively small variance in powder charge make for very small variance in velocity. Overbore and small cartridges would react more negatively to powder charge variation.
