Do you guys keep logs/records of your memorable hunts, or do you trust to memory? My dad is getting up there and I wondered if I should start going back and recording some of our stories.

I have trusted it to memory. But looking back now, a journal would be cool to refer back to.

Coolest thing we did was "interview" my grandparents several times about different aspects of their lives. It was great to listen to the stories in their own voices. I need to find those again and listen to them, it has been a while.

Pictures and memories is all I need. I can look at a picture or a deer mount and remember everything about it.

I log every deer I see come out to my feeder with the time/Date/weather/etc. I put all my logs on that note app in my iphone. Start over a new folder each season.

I agree with Mark, writing it down and taking lots of photos would have been the way to go. I only wish that I would have taken more photos and recorded more conversations in my almost 60 years of hunting and camping with guys that I considered to be legends. When I grew up, a camera never crossed my mind as it was something else to carry that was not needed. Sorry to say, though I carry a cell phone most of the time, I am not in a habit of taking photos as I should.
Unfortunately, my boys have taken on my bad habits. My oldest son, Clint killed a really nice muley in CO on Saturday that scored 196 1/4" Gross B&C after he shot a point off of it that would have easily put him over 200". I had to ask him to pose with the deer as all he had was a photo of the deer lying on the ground with his rifle resting on it. So you can see why I have a problem with someone sending me photos of what they are eating........
Adios,
Gary

On an old lease around Roby, Tx, We had a hunting log book, and recorded any deer shot in it. Now that we've been off that place for 7 years now, I think it's time I get back to recording memorable hunts. Might have to do just that now up

Years ago my paternal grandmother wrote what we all referred to as 'her stories'. Now that she's been gone for nearly 30 years, the written word is priceless. I still have the original hand-written papers along with the first effort at typing them on 'onion' paper.
I've made copies on disc for the family once some 20 years before and think I'll do that again this year for the younger crowd.

Pay it forward - Kids are the future.

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

Many members of my grandmothers generation and most of their kids wrote down their "life stories/memories" these were all compiled into 3-ring binders and on CD.....they are cherished memories as now all but a few have passed. I also recorded (audio) my grandparents telling stories of their lives....true treasures.....

I have written down many, I have enough to make a book.
It has helped the kids recall times from when they were little.
