Taking a trip down south to my old hunting grounds and was bringing my dog with me...its down on the coastal marshes. It will be my dogs first hunt and was wondering you guys opinion on letting her hunt. Reason being, its not cold enough for gators to go into hibernation yet.

It's all about knowing where you're hunting. I hunt down on the coast, but I also know where I hunt there aren't any gators as the water is too shallow. I hunted her through teal season with no problems. If you've seen them there before be careful. I went the opening of teal season solo. Did an adequate check for red eyes using the flashlight that morning on my way in. Saw nothing. If concern is that great I recommend doing the same. You can always bring the dog the following day or next time out, but no hunt is worth losing your best friend.

yeah, they say i don't have anything to worry about because they mostly stay in open water and not the flooded marsh area where we will be... It's an area they hunt all consistently so i trust their word. It is just in the back of my head and probably over stressing, but just wanted to ask opinions...

Running water I'd most likely hunt my dog but swimming water no way.
