Howdy. This is my first time on the forum so I hope you don't mind my jumping right in.
I'd consider myself 1, 2, & 3. My wife likes cooking with venison and I like eatin' it. That being said I like having a nice trophy on the wall and in order to accomplish that we need some management. I'm on a level 3 MLD and the management program has helped us harvest some really nice bucks.

I just like killing animals. A little unstable. Have some respect. I disagree that this sentiment is unstable. I hunt because I like stalking and killing wild animals, and then eating them.

I still get my heart racing when I find a mature buck in his prime. I enjoy killing them to this day, but I'm not near as mad at them as I used to be when I was younger. I'm no longer upset if I don't kill a mature buck every season. I just enjoy observing nature now more than in my early years of hunting. Sharing the outdoor experience with my family and friends is just as important as the hunting part for me now as well.
I'm happy to say I no longer get the case of jealousy or buck envy when other lease members kill bigger deer than me. That used to really get under my skin when I started getting serious about trophy hunting, Lol!

1,4 & 6, already have several mounted and like the deer meat. The main thing is to enjoy the outdoors and time spent with friends. We bow hunt only and the time spent filling feeders, working on stands and helping tracking and recovering a deer when needed really builds up our friendship, been hunting with the same group over 20 years.

I guess I would be a management hunter who likes to take three deer each deer. Enjoy being outdoors like others and am not nearly as mad at the deer as I use to be. Been on the same small low fence lease for the last 16 years. During this time we have had high and low years due to other hunters and mother nature, low rainfall for example. Seems circumstance can force you to be management in some cases.

Evolving hunter for me. I didn't hunt growing up so it's been a bit of a learning curve for me. Been at it 4 years now. I have learned from my mistakes and continue to learn more and more each season. Im sure I'll make plenty more to learn from. I love to fill my freezer and share with friends and family. I also have gotten to where i don't need to shoot something every time i go out in order for me to consider my hunt successful. I've now gotten to the point though that I would like to shoot a mature buck and not settle for a 3 yr old 8 pointer. Oh and not to mention getting to spend quality time with my 10 yr old boy and watching him grow as a hunter as well. And I just love being outdoors!

I don’t think I fit any of the listed types. I just like to hunt. I like being in the stand watching the world go by. Good book, coffee, binocs, leather recliner, 260 in the corner. No hurry to do anything. Retired and don’t worry about Mondays.

I'm like several of the others! A mixture of all the above, but over the years It's not about how big or how many anymore. The last deer I killed was several years ago. Nice very old buck! The last 10 years it's all about getting into the woods, and blasting hogs when I need more sausage. The last few years I have taken lots of pics of animals. Yep, 603Country read a few good books in the field also!

I love hunting and going to the lease. I also spend more time at the lease than anyone else in our group. I spend about 40-45 days a year at the lease and would go more if I could. Started hunting around 8 years ago in my mid 40s. I enjoy all types of hunting deer, hog, dove, duck, quail, turkey and varmints equally. I also love rifle and bow hunting equally. I've challenged myself to kill animals this year with every rifle I own, my bow and a pistol.
I've only killed three bucks and still learning how to age, so my goal is to improve the quality of deer I shoot each year. I've shot 3 bucks over the past 4 years and each buck has been better than the previous. I donut know what type of hunter that makes me, but my wife would say I'm obsessed.

Just get me out to the lease and i am happy. It is a far drive(almost 6 hours) so i can't make it as much as i want to. I do love hunting but more of being out there there with good people, food, and conversation.

Just curious were everyone stands. Which one are you?
1. Meat hunter 2. Trophy Hunter 3. Management oriented 4. Opportunistic 5. Socially driven 6. In for the comrodery 7.(Fill in blank)
Myself I am a meat hunter that will gladly capitalize on a trophy if and when it's presented but my focus is full freezers hands down. I'll go 1, 3, and 6 Love venison...haven't purchased ground beef in years. Would rather have deer any day of the week I'm not a trophy hunter by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm a little more picky now than I used to be. It isn't necessarily about killing a monster buck so much as it is about killing an older buck. I could have loosed an arrow on 75% of my hunts this year, but didn't because they're young bucks. I watched a good looking young 8 this morning chasing a few doe around. Just isn't what I'm after. There's an older buck, good mass but his tine length is over with. I'd love to let the air out of him this year. Now my wife and kids? If it's legal, they have the green light they're all chasing their first buck, so I don't care what they shoot as long as it's legal
I will get off in a little bit You shouldnt have said that

I'm the hunter that's old enough to know better hunter, After 40 plus years of filling tags, I prefer to be warm, comfortabke, and rather watch the deer than shoot them. However, my favorite thing to do is help a hunter get their first deer. That's where I'm at.

I’m opportunistic, I have killed many a deer since my first one in 1979 or 1980, somewhere in that area and don’t really get out and hunt them anymore. If I do happen to see one that I like while out and about, I will kill it. My kid will figure out where they are traveling and I will go with him to shoot a couple of young does to eat, we like the flavor of deer very much. We have no lease and no feeders and just hunt on our land.

I'm the kind that likes to watch other people gut and process them. I love it when a youngster gets his deer. Last weeknd: I had to help him get this one in the ice chest but he did a damn good job on the gutting.
