Hi everyone,
I've got an AR with a muzzle device that I'd like to remove. Unfortunately, the manufacturer did a superb installation job and it's clearly going to require the use of a vice to hold things in place during the removal process. What do you use for this type of work and do you have any hints or tips?

Make sure the muzzle devise is not Loctite on. Some use this, and will require a heating to loosen it up. A simple vise will work, with something soft against the barrel to hold it in place. A barrel vise will work better, which most smiths have.

I have this, has worked fine for me. They do make a heavier duty non slip type.

You can make a barrel vice out of two blocks of wood and a bicycle inner tube. I did it a few years ago and it worked great. I'm on my phone or I would take the time to explain how. Search for the instructions online. That's where I learned how to do it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. You've given me some pretty good ideas. I've ordered some supplies and will give this a shot next week after my goodies arrive.

This is what I use, have built several side charging AR's and this worked great. Do some searching, price was about $60.00 shipped, but some sites as high as $100.00. Puts no pressure on the upper, just the barrel.

If you have to apply heat, use a heat gun, it is slower, but safer.

Basic idea A couple questions 1. What wood is the best to make one of these out of? 2. Do u drill the hole first and then cut in half OR cut some halves and then drill holes?
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I believe the one I have has oak for the wood. I would think it would be easier to drill the holt then cut in half. mine were already pre drilled and cut.
