I just am not sure what the point of something like that would be? Doesn't take up less space than a regular hatchet (still need to tote a handle around) Has a gut hook?? but you still need a knife for skinning. Dunno, looks like a waste of $135 to me. JMO

I have no experience with this. Just my opinion, but it looks to be one of those "jack of all trades-master of none" tools.

You want to pay 140 bucks for a hatchet with no handle? What’s wrong with you?

You want to pay 140 bucks for a hatchet with no handle? What’s wrong with you? Probably because I'm a thoroughly unpleasant grouch, that's what's wrong with me.

IMO it looks like a waste of money id rather have a Gerber Probably is, but I have a son who is an avid, AVID back packer and he "counts his ounces" like most people count calories! With this thing, he can make his own handle out on the trail and not have to pack the store-bought handle. Seemed rather unique and I thought it might be a good gift for him. I waste money every year trying to get the children gifts that they can actually use, and bat about .300.

As stated above, looks like a waste of money IMHO.
Don't talk the talk if you didn't walk the walk.

An ounce in the morning feels like a pound at night - backpacking phrase. That looks like a really cool tool for backpacking. If you wanted to spend $477 on it, you can get the titanium model. 8.8 ozs instead of 14.4 ounces. That's a really huge lot of money to spend on something like that but if you got it at Cabella's - either one, and he didn't like it, he could easily exchange it for something he would rather have. We carried a light weight saw for cutting wood and used rocks or a piece of wood for pounding stuff and left the hatchet in the truck due to weight savings. The titanium Klax head would have got taken if we had one but no one in our group could afford something like that.

Jon, I've heard that phrase a lot of times during our family reunions when the topic of conversation turns to saving weight when planning a "real" back packing trip! I love my son very much, but I don't have the $500 to buy a titanium model for him! I still have not heard from anyone who has first hand experience with this tool; only observations/opinions.

I hear you on the $500 thing. I couldn't do that either!! I doubt there are very many on here who could give you first hand experience but i could easily be wrong. You could look on Amazon and then read the user reviews - probably get some that have backpacked with it. Also might check places like Cabela's, REI, etc. website and look for user reviews there. Hope you find your answers.
