how long do y'all think you can safely store a quartered deer or hog in an ice chest?

i'm probably wrong but I figure that if the chest was in a shady spot, the water stayed drained and fresh ice was added daily then ten days would probably be ok before the meat needed to be put in the freezer.

Yes, it will be okay. I've aged deer in a refer unit way longer than that for 40 years of deer hunting.

I quarter up my deer, place meat in the ice chest with drain open and constantly add ice every day. I will "prop up" one side of the ice chest to let out as much water. This really takes the blood out of the meat. I leave the meat to drain for about 5 days before I start to cut it up and freeze it. I think its ok to leave it in the ice chest for 10 days. Just be sure to check the ice level every day.

Hogs do not age well, deer would be fine for 10 days.

I had an outfitter show me a trick he used in his yeti. He got old plastic milk trays and cut them to fit the cooler bottom. Then flipped them over. He used them as racks to keep the ice underneath and the meat cold but not soaking. It was a great way to age meat and keep it cold.

10-14 days not a problem as long as the meat is kept fairly dry.

thanks guys. I figured it would probably be ok but wanted to check around before I ever actually had to try it.

It can stay good that long or longer but no butchers treat meat like this, dry aging is much better then when you leave it in an ice chest in water your taking alot.of the nutrients and taste out of the meat. Leaving the drain open is better but Its better to hang it or sit it in a walk in cooler on racks or old.fridge that has racks where ait can get around it. Some people.think deer is gamey but i love the taste.

Should be good 10-14 days if kept dry and cold. I kept an armadillo in the cooler since Friday night. It sure was good when I pulled him out of the crock pot yesterday after 5 hours of bathing in gravy.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Cant speak for dry aging or extended periods of aging like 30 days etc. but have left hogs on drained ice in coolers multiple times for 10 or so day with no problems what so ever.
