People sky bust because they don’t know how to duck hunt. Concealment and set up flaws.

We typically don’t shoot them unless they’re 10-15 yards out tennis racket range or 25 to 30 yards outskirts of decoys. Many hunts result in limits with less than 10-12 shells fired per gun- I get them tight most of the time.

When there’s lack of wind and bad lighting- are presentations a bit different more- motion

Regularly shoot Dove at 60- 70 yards- Crippling ducks just not cool

X2.
Not very often do we take 40+ yd shots. If your setup is good there really shouldn't be a need to. Getting them where you want them to be is half the fun.

So is that sky busting or ground busting? Did you use a call?

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Air-to-air. Just trying to lighten this place up.

long shots occur sometimes especially late in the season when
the ducks are super pressured
they get decoy shy or call shy so yes, sometimes a LONGER shot
is required

Last year I hunted some late season blue quail on public New Mexico Sandhills. I switched to full choke & #6's the second day and shot some that were at least 75 yards.

Thought so. I got a chuckle out of it. Thanks for the levity.

Typically the edge of my spread is about 30 yards out. I try my absolute best not to shoot beyond that range. Having said that, I would say the farthest I've ever shot a duck would be at about 45 yards.

I have taken a goose on a pass shot. The flock was probably 60 yards up. Hard for me to gauge that though.

If you're shooting ducks at 65 yards you are a skybuster. That's not even debatable. There is no need to shoot thempast 40 max. 20 would be better. . If you can't get them closer than that then don't shoot and watch them and study them and interact with them and learn how to get them in closer. Learning how to do that will make you a better duck hunter, not learning how to hit them farther out.

you can load loads and shoot through the right gun and choke to consistently make kill shots at distances in the 60s. when you get ready to shoot ducks at 20, you simply "pull off" just a little bit. if you kill more than you miss, it isn't skybusting. I've watched people be unethical at 30 yds.
